What Worked For Me:

This book….what a heart-wrenching, gut-churning, totally mind-blowing beginning to a series that I have a feeling is going to be one of my favorite series…OF ALL TIME.  This book is the first book of the four McKinnon Sisters stories but it gives you plenty of backstory to set up for the rest of the books.  It tells the story of Faith.  Kind, sweet and loyal, Faith is left behind in Paradise, trying to pick up the pieces of her life after her soul-mate has broken things off with her while he was away at war.  She has no clue as to the demons he faces or the mental anguish he has suffered while overseas and to spare her this, Cain sends her a letter, ending their engagement.  She is heartbroken and doesn’t understand why but she picks herself up and tries her best to carry on without him.  After his service is up, Cain makes his way home and attempts to bury his demons in a bottle and hide out at the family home…until Faith is injured at work one evening and a proposition is placed before him, one that gives him the chance to right the wrongs he has made and possibly win Faith back.  This girl, she is furious and I absolutely adore how she makes him work for it.  It is very clear they are soul mates, and very much meant to be together but the path to forgiveness is not easy for Cain and he attempts to do whatever it takes to win her back, wooing her one step at a time, until her sister intervenes in a way that had me in laughing so hard my side had stitches.  I loved every second of this couple finding their way back to one another.  There is a lot of laughter and even more tears….but even better, some explosively hot sex.  Like, burn-the-roof-down HOT!!!!  My heart was hurting for both of them as there where quite a bit of feelings involved between them that neither knew how to handle….him feeling so much despair from the war and her hurting for him because of it, yet also angry at him for leaving her behind instead of leaning on her and letting her help him cope and heal. There were so many emotions at play here that I was physically moved to tears wanting her to forgive him and wanting her to make him suffer just a little bit more for breaking her heart, no matter how selfless he was trying to be.  There is a great plot, some action, and whole smorgasbord of secondary characters we are introduced to that makes this book the perfect kick-off to a deliciously erotic love story about hope, forgiveness and never-ending love.

Hard As Stone

22312980

What Worked For Me:

WOW!  Just….simply put….WOW!  There are not enough adequate words to describe how completely my mind was blown reading Hard As Stone!  Sarah O’Rourke ratchets things up a notch in book 2 of this series…and by things I mean EVERYTHING…..the suspense, the drama, the laughter, the tears and the deeply sexual and highly erotic relationship between the next McKinnon Sister and her deliciously hunky hero!!!!  Harmony McKinnon is our heroine in this book and I adore her.  She has not had it easy but she is holding strong and living life while raising her daughter, the product of an abusive relationship during her rebellious youth.  She is the epitome of responsibility and maturity now, especially for the sake of her daughter, and the guilt she feels about her past and the effect it had on the lives of her sisters and her parents.   Enter Jake, our yummy and drool-worthy hero, who comes into the picture under less than honest circumstances but soon discovers that his reasons for being in Paradise mean nothing in the face of what he is feeling for Harmony and her daughter.  In them he has found love and a chance at a family and even vengeance pales in comparison to what he desperately wants from them.  Their relationship, and the feelings they invoke in one another….goodness gracious!  It is sheer beauty!  It is like watching a gorgeous sunset…so pale and soft to start and then it explodes in all these bright and wondrous colors….it simply takes your breath away.  That is how I describe the relationship between Jake and Harmony. I loved every second of the journey between them.  I cheered for them when they found their way, and I also fought with them when Harmony found out Jake’s real reason for being in Paradise and it looked like hope of a future for them may be lost (yep, I was wanting to get in some knee to the nuts shots here myself).  And Harmony’s daughter, Heaven?  She was adorable!  I loved how the author created a relationship between Jake and Heaven that was completely separate from the relationship between Harmony and Jake.  We get to see the McKinnon Family in action even more than in book one and the things they have been through will blow your mind, most especially the youngest sibling, Honor.  It has forged a very strong bond between them and we get to see how that bond is tested and holds true time and again while reading this book.  There is a very evil villain at work here, probably one of the worst I have ever read and plenty of surprises that keep you sitting on the edge of your seat from one word to the next.  Hard As Stone is the epitome of everything I want in my Contemporary Erotic Romantic Suspense books.  It has a very engaging characters, an easy to understand but enjoyable plot that keeps you guessing and entertained at all times, highly charged and erotic sex scenes, heart-tugging emotion, gut-clenching laughter, and even allows you to shed some tears.  Very few books can move me the way this book did and I can happily say that the duo of Sarah O’Rourke is becoming a favorite author of mine.  I can’t wait to see what the next book in this series will bring!

What Didn’t Work For Me:

Once again, a flawless masterpiece.  The entire book worked!

Would I Recommend This Book:

Yes!  Most especially to my reading friends who love romantic suspense with erotic sex thrown in!

Ready, Willing, And Abel

26619921

What Worked For Me:

I must admit, I’ve been intrigued over the past few books, as to how this book was going to play out.  You see our heroine, Patience, and our hero, Abel….well, they have a history.  And it isn’t a very good one.   She has been brutal towards him in the last few books.  If words could destroy, yeah, I’m surprised this man didn’t leave town, tail tucked between legs (where his penis is supposed to be, according to Patience).  A lesser man would have.  But, nope, Abel has proved to be a man…a very worthy man at that and is proving time and again that he IS the man to bring this very stubborn and determined McKinnon woman to her knees (um, yeah literally).  After celebrating a family engagement one evening in the family bar and dealing with Patience and her antics….Abel has decided he wants a do-over.  Just one night to make up for the bad experience he gave her years ago. Yep, you read that right.  He screwed the pooch the first time so know he wants to properly fix the problem and make it all better.  Ahhhh, Patience….this girl is anything but her name.  She has got to be one of the most stubborn and mule-headed heroines I have ever read in my entire life.  That is over 30 years of reading books so that is saying something.  She could make a donkey look like a docile lap dog!  She has barely any give and I spent plenty of time wanting to smack the woman silly just to get her to give a little bit of lee-way.  No worries, though!  Abel takes her in hand….ok, I’m not going to spoil the do-over for you.  You simply must read it.  It is full of fireworks.  Not the little sparklers and tiny little bottle rockets either.  Nope!  I’m talking the big boom ones full of bright and bold colors that go on and on and are synchronized to music.  It’s that powerful!  But three months later there is a surprise, one that Patience never planned for in her life and that is where this book gets very real.  I love the journey this author takes us on from here.  From a woman who never wanted kids finding out she is pregnant and the journey that follows after, we get to live each moment with Patience and Abel.  We get to experience their ups and downs as they navigate the path that is parenthood while they find their footing in a relationship that Patience was unsure of to begin with.  Abel begins to understand why Patience is so hesitant to be in a relationship and Patience learns that not everything in life has to end, that sometimes the end of something can be the beginning of something else even more beautiful.  There are moments that are so hilarious that I about died laughing and others so emotional I cursed the author because no book should make you cry so much.  This book has a fast paced plot that naturally flows and keeps you guessing and highly entertained (seriously, they don’t even make TV shows this good anymore).  The secondary characters are just as enjoyable as the main characters without taking the spotlight away from them.  We, of course, have an evil bad person.  Well, there is more than one.  And, while this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend that you read the entire series as a whole to get the maximum enjoyment out of it.  Overall, there is so much to this book, and this series, I can’t imagine the time and attention these two authors must devote to create such a well-developed and emotionally-charged storyline.  It is truly a masterpiece.  And while I am on pins and needles waiting to read the final McKinnon Sister Story, the story of Honor (which is going to be the most heartbreaking and poignant love story of the series, I’m sure) I will be devastated to see this series come to an end.  I’ve never met this author (which is a duo of two women) and until two months ago, never even heard of her.  But I can honestly say this series is one of the best series I have ever read.

Tangled Hearts

What Worked For Me:

Ok…I received this book in exchange for an honest review but quite honestly, it was the most expensive free book I have ever received.  I LOVED this book so much, I bought every book this author has on Amazon.  Yes, seriously, every book I could.  Tangled Hearts was amazing!  It had so many wonderful things you can’t simply put them all into words.  I laughed, out loud frequently, throughout the entire book.  I cried a few tears too.  Our heroine, Melody, is funny and rambunctious and I enjoyed her, even when she was being extremely stubborn and hard headed.  She is foul-mouthed and had the absolute funniest names I’ve ever heard a man called, EVER!  Callum, our hero, he was probably no better and was, without a doubt Melody’s soulmate.  I could listen to them banter and bicker back and forth for hours and be endlessly entertained.  The sex scenes were smoking hot and sultry (I love a man with a dirty mouth) and scenes featuring secondary characters were delightful and engaging.  The plot was fast paced and not at all what I expected at the end, which was a pleasant surprise considering you can sometimes see the ending before you read it.  I was completely enthralled reading this book and I can’t wait to read both past and future releases from Ms. O’Rourke.

Sarah O’Rourke is actually two besties who live three states apart and write at all hours of the day and night! Born and raised in the Southern United States, they are overly attached to their one-click accounts, can’t make it through the day without copious doses of caffeine, and spend way too much time on the phone with each other.

Between them, they have four children and eighteen years of marriage…one to a super soldier and the other to egomaniac engineer. They hate empty chocolate wrappers and writer’s block, love to talk to readers…and oh, by the way, they write about strong, kick-ass women and hot alpha heroes!
