What Worked For Me:
Samanthe Beck is definitely an author you want to check out. Heartwarming and entertaining, Hard Compromise is no exception to this rule. This book is the 2nd book in her Compromise Me Series but you absolutely do not have to read the previous book to enjoy this one (although I would recommend it because, well, why not)? I was utterly charmed by our sexy and enigmatic hero, Ethan. He is alpha male…without all the chest-beating and knuckle-dragging displays (not that those are bad, LOL). He is a sheriff who is the complete and utter opposite of our heroine, Laurie. He’s from a family that has money and stature and has known a pretty good life. The same can’t be said of our heroine. Laurie…she’s a rather flawed character and I have to be honest, I did not like her at first. It’s not because she from the wrong side of the tracks or has had a crappy childhood. It’s just that she was rather…generous with her cookie….all over town. For a girl who despises her mom, she is doing the exact same thing and it comes off making her look kind of desperate. And her “generosity” becomes apparent at the most inconvenient of times, say while she on dates with the sheriff. However, Laurie grew on me. She is such a strong woman and is making something of herself but after a tragic event takes place, she is put on the spot and must come up with money to keep herself and her business afloat. Enter Ethan, who has spent the better part of 10 years protecting, and then falling for, Laurie. He makes an offer she can’t refuse and so begins a beautifully synced love story that I could not put down. For ever move she makes to fight her attraction and feelings, he has a smarter and more boldly erotic move to counter hers. It is a delicious dance between these two. These two have some amazing chemistry and sex scenes are pure indulgence. Throw in some pretty interesting family dynamics and you are completely hooked on this storyline. I love Ethan’s mom…truly, she is a delightfully funny woman who added some great humor and emotion. My heart ached numerous times for Laurie because her mom was the epitome of bad person AND bad mom. I hurt so much for her but admired the way she just kept moving forward. Overall, this book was a wonderfully written story that was chock full of emotions. It has a little bit of everything that makes a book more than a book…joy, bitterness, love, sex, laughter, suspense, anger….and a happily-ever-after to knock your socks off. This is a well-written and engaging tale of redemption and unconditional love and it’s one you should not delay in reading!
What Didn’t Work For Me:
While the heroine definitely wormed her way into my heart, I didn’t like that she was so freely giving away her charms, considering how her mom was. She was working so hard to prove to the town and herself that she was better than her mom but that one thing, it really bothered me and it took a little bit for me to warm up to her. However, once she was with the hero, she was ONLY with him. It was her behavior pre-hero that rubbed me wrong, or rather, how it was continually brought to the heroes attention and rubbed in his face.
Would I Recommend This Story:
Yes! Absolutely, this book is a must read, especially if you like plucky and strong heroines and heroes who stop at nothing to tame them.
Final Star Rating: 4.5
Laurie Peterson assumes her impulsive one-night stand with sinfully sexy Sheriff Ethan Booker is the biggest surprise of the year…until her bakery burns down while she’s basking in the afterglow. It looks like her dreams are up in smoke, but then Ethan proposes a deal too tempting to resist.
Ethan has no intention of settling for a one-night stand with Laurie. Nor does he want anything to do with the women his wealthy family wants him to meet. Not when he’s waited ten years for his chance to make his move. His deal might have strings—and Laurie may not know the stakes—but nothing will stop this sexy cop from staking a real claim on her body and her heart.
