Review – The Outpost by Devney Perry

I gotta hand it to Ms. Perry…she definitely knows how to suck her readers in and keep them on the edge of their seats!  The Outpost, the 4th book in the Jamison Valley Series gives us the story of Beau and Sabrina.  Their story picks up where The Lucky Heart ended and I have to admit, I fell head over heels in LUV with Beau.  This man gives…and gives, and gives, and gives and is still a total bada** in a very alpha male way.  The way he treats Sabrina, with patience and understanding while still using a firm hand, is absolutely swoon worthy.  He takes care of her, befriends her, and becomes her confidant, all the while falling deeply in love with her.  Sabrina….ok, I have to be honest.  She took a little bit for me to warm up to.  But, once you looked past her overwhelming ambition and what appears to be snobbery, you find she has a heart of gold and is very tenderhearted.  From the moment she meets Beau, she is in lust but while running for her life she thinks the most he will ever want from her is friendship.  She could not be more wrong.  The push and pull between these two is phenomenal, as is their chemistry, and it isn’t long before they find themselves unable to withstand the inferno their chemistry creates.  It’s wonderful…both sensual and erotic.  I couldn’t get enough.  This book has a different tone than the other books as it takes place over many, many months and the hero and heroine are not up in each others lives 24/7.  This  does not detract from the romance but instead, enhances it and makes it richer and fuller.  We see Sabrina battle her demons and we see Beau realize he will move heaven and earth to be everything Sabrina needs him to be.  There is danger and intrigue and, of course, appearances by characters in previous books of the series (I love catching up on past characters).  Overall, this was a moving and emotional story with an engaging plot, well written characters, and a wonderful love story (and an Epilogue….I love, love, love those).  I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.  Ms. Devney just gets better and better and I am one reader who is hooked!  5 stars.

Title: The Outpost

Author: Devney Perry

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About The Outpost:

Trapped in his tiny mountain cabin, she didn’t expect to fall for his big heart.

Exposing a prominent criminal family with an investigative news report didn’t exactly work out the way Sabrina had hoped. Instead of basking in the glory of her article’s success, she’s on the run from a powerful man who wants her dead. To stay safe, she’s forced to trade one bad situation for another. Stuck in the Montana wilderness, she’s secluded from anything resembling civilization or the modern-day world. The only good thing about her situation is the gorgeous mountain man assigned to protect her. Too bad he isn’t the slightest bit interested in a city girl like her.

Beau likes his life quiet and simple. Give him a peaceful day hiking in the woods with his dog, and he’s a happy man. He has no use for large crowds, noisy cities or dramatic women. So when a hotshot reporter rolls into town, dragging her big-time problems with her, he should have run for the hills. Instead, he volunteered to keep her safe. Bringing her into his world won’t be easy, but if he can convince her that Montana isn’t as terrifying as she believes, they might just be the perfect match.
