Oh sweet baby Jesus!!! What?!?! You haven’t read Waterfall Effect by K.K. Allen yet? Are you freaking crazy?!?! Of course you are because this book is quite simply one of the best books I have ever read in my entire life!!! Hands downs, Waterfall Effect was full of everything I love in a romantic suspense book….plus more! Stunning, moving, and emotionally gripping this book evoked so many emotions that it quite literally took my breath away. I have never read anything by K.K. Allen before but I will certainly be reading her from this point forward. Aurora, our heroine, has suffered from great pain and tragedy in her young life and moved away from everything she knew and loved to escape the pain. This includes Jaxon, the love of her life. Straight up, I can tell you that I very much adored Aurora. She was brave and fierce and reacted in the way only a young adult would, so I held no animosity towards her character for her actions. But returning to face her demons really cemented the way I looked at her. She was so magnificent, trying to overcome and heal from the wounds of the past and the way in which she decided to heal was by returning to Balsam Grove. This proved how utterly strong of a heroine she was and she never once caused me to flinch at my choice to admire the way she was written. Returning to Balsam Grove means returning to the place she left Jaxon behind and she is surprised to find him still there. Now Jaxon…..he was total perfection…an insanely hot package that is all man wrapped around a core so honorable, it brings tears to your eyes (and drenches your panties but I won’t go there). He was only momentarily surprised by Aurora;s return and even urged her to leave but that was short lived. He did anything and everything in his power not only to help heal her but to help her move on with her life…and he is determined that her life will include him. He will not be left behind without her and his actions and words swept me off my feet. The fact that he didn’t make her grovel for her choice to leave was perfect because real gentlemen don’t torture ladies who have endured enough. He was so in sync with Aurora I don’t think anyone else in the world would have been better written to compliment his brooding hotness. These two have amazing chemistry and endless passion (the sex scenes were crazy HOT). Most of all this book was about human emotion and Ms. Allen is a poet where this is concerned. Not only does she write with so much fervor that you feel everything the characters are feeling, her ability to write with such utter clarity makes you feel like you are a part of the book and can see everything the characters are seeing, as if you are part of the scene. From moments of sheer beauty in the mountain and among the waterfalls to the suspenseful scenes were your hearts is racing like you life in in danger, I felt like I was an active participant in this story and that is was written just for me. Yes, it’s that good! This book sweeps you off your feet with a timeless romance, decadent eroticism, gripping suspense, and a plot so well written, your mind is blown at the place it takes you (OMG….the plot twist was insane and I did not see that coming). There is even anger at the way many members of the town treat Aurora upon her arrival and I wasn’t above cursing like a drunken sailor at my Kindle when I came to those scenes. Overall, there was not one single word in Waterfall Effect that didn’t belong in this book and I’m dying with anticipation at the next book by Ms. Allen. This book is a keeper, one I see myself frequently re-reading, and I will most definitely be purchasing a print copy for my keeper shelves. If you can only buy 10 books this year, I beg of you to make Waterfall Effect one of your 10. You will not be disappointed. 5 stars!
she’s kept locked away for seven years. Or so she thinks.
I don’t try to navigate my way. I hike beside the river, around every curve and bend, uphill and against the current. It’s a familiar path, but my focus isn’t on the destination. Every now and then I stop to take a drink from the stream, pluck a fiery pink flower, and tune into a wild animal scampering across fallen leaves. But it’s not until I reach a steeper incline that I take a moment to assess where I’m headed.
The river has significantly increased in speed since I began walking a few minutes ago. A steeper incline forces me to distance myself from the water’s edge, onto a more manageable path through the woods. My thighs burn from the steady climb, and my throat aches from dehydration. I never planned to journey this far, but I could have at least thought to bring water. I’m ready to turn back, find the river, and drink from it when I spot the top of a familiar red house peeking over the hill. Hummingbirds unleash in my chest as I inch forward.
