Review – The Catch by K. Bromberg

Review:

Truth time.  I abhor cliffhangers.  I hate them.  Actually, hate isn’t a strong enough word for how I feel about them.  They are evil!!!  So, I read the first book, The Player and I loved it until…..CLIFFHANGER!  No joke, I threw my Kindle across my bed.  I was steaming mad.  So, along comes the second part, The Catch.  At first I thought, “no way am I reading that.  The author wrecked me the first time”.  But I was on a road trip back and and thought to myself  “I’ve got 9 hours of long-distance driving so I might as well see what happens between Easton and Scout”. When I finished The Catch, I learned I’m a complete idiot!  The Catch blew my mind (and my panties) away.  I loved Scout and Easton in the first book but I worshiped them in the second.  They are perfect for each other and no matter what is thrown at them, they seems to come out stronger and better.  Easton is facing massive turmoil in his professional and personal life and Scout grounds him, showing him how much more wonderful life can be with the right person by your side.  Scout is so controlled and driven, I love how Easton can bring out the playfulness and spontaneity in Scout, showing her that it’s ok to let go and allow someone into your heart.  Scout has demons she is coping with herself but together they are able to overcome everything thrown their way.  The plot was fast paced and easy to follow along with, but The Player must be read first.  There is some angst, but not too much to distract you from the story line.  There are some surprise twists in the plot that I never in a million years saw coming that make this story even more stellar.  The sex scenes are both erotic and emotionally charged.  Really, the chemistry between these two is unbelievably intense.  Overall, I went into this book thinking it would just be “meh”.  I finished this book thinking it doesn’t get much better than this.  I highly recommend this book to lovers of sports romance with a little bit of intrigue and contemporary erotic romance.  5 stars.

After an unexpected twist of fate, All-Star catcher Easton Wylder is left questioning the loyalty of everyone around him.

Even the woman who shares his bed, Scout Dalton.

But if Easton thought being uprooted to the last place he expected was the only challenge life had to throw at him, he was dead wrong.

With an ailing shoulder and his career in limbo, his decision to make an unexpected change leads him to question everything – Scout’s love, family loyalties, and whether he can conquer the one obstacle he’s never been able to overcome. The secret he’s never shared with anyone.

He may be a man pushed to his limits, but he’s hell-bent on proving his worth no matter the cost.

Review – Sexy Stranger by Kendall Ryan

Review:

This book was fantastic!  I absolutely adored Luke and Charlotte!  They had some amazing chemistry from the very beginning and it just got hotter the deeper into the book   Luke is absolutely charming and such a gentleman but if you strip away the good-ole-country-boy exterior he is a stick of dynamite with a deliciously dirty mouth and some pretty seductive moves!  He is completely perfect for city-girl gone rouge, Charlotte.  This girl was a trip!  On the surface she appears shallow and almost aloof but peel back a tiny layer and  you will find there is so much more to her than just a pretty face.  She has depth and passion and I admired her and her actions throughout the entire book.  She was, surprisingly, like a breath of fresh and a delightful surprise.  I also thought she was perfect for Luke!  The banter between these two will have your panties melting and your mouth laughing as they are desperate to fight the attraction they instantly feel and unwilling to do much about denying that attraction.  The sex scenes are titillating and erotic without being over the top.  This book had a great plot that was both sweet and angsty without being over-dramatized.  The secondary characters were well written and brought a lot of zany charm to the storyline.  I’m definitely hoping some of them get their own books!  Overall, this book kept me entertained form beginning to end and I’m finding Kendall Ryan is becoming an auto-buy author for me.  Her writing is fun and stimulating and I have yet to find a book by her I haven’t enjoyed immensely!  5 stars!

Review – Dare to Take by Carly Phillips

What Worked For Me:

I absolutely adored Dare to Take.  I will be honest, the best friend of sibling trope is one of my absolute favorites but when you combine a second chance at a bad first encounter….Sign this girl up!!!!  This book was refreshing and I loved every second of it.  Tyler is our super-hot and noble hero who, in my opinion, takes too much blame for the problems of the world around him.  That makes committing to anyone, let alone our beautiful and enchanting heroine Ella, difficult for him to handle.  He is unsure of himself and his abilities to stay strong and true in a relationship.  He deems himself unworthy and it takes some strength and tough love from his mother and, more importantly, from Ella, to help him realize, he is capable of having a committed and deep relationship with someone.  And, he desperately wants Ella.  I loved Ella.  She is so strong and brave, even when things around her don’t quite always go her way. She is the underdog who bravely faces things head on and I loved how she just keeps pushing through each and every obstacle she is faced with (except for one issues, and the girl deserved to bury her head for a few days with that).  She is absolutely worthy of Tyler, and his match in every way, but she has a hard time trusting him after their botched one-night together years ago.  Still, when her life is on the line Tyler pulls out all the stops to prove to her just how important she is to him and that he will do whatever is takes to make her his, forever. This couple was absolutely incendiary, their chemistry was just that hot!   They had so many moments where they made me laugh and in the same breath, made me cry.   Carly Phillips certainly wins when it comes to steamy romance with passion and amazing chemistry between characters.  This book has that and more…glimpses into the lives of the previous Dare siblings (which I loved), a fast-moving and entertaining plot, and a swoon-worthy happily ever after that left me feeling good long after the book ended.

What Didn’t Work For Me:

The book was perfect!

Would I Recommend This Book:

Yes, especially to my friends who like their romance sweet but with a little bit of erotic spice.

She was off limits,
But he couldn’t resist.

There are just some guys you don’t touch–even someone as innocent and inexperienced as Ella Shaw knows that. But when her brother’s best friend is up for grabs and willing, she can’t resist. After all, she’s wanted him for years…

On leave from the army, Tyler Dare WAS just looking for a little fun, but his best friend’s sister is off limits. Yet unable to deny how sexy and alluring she is, he finds it all too easy to succumb to a night of passion and heat that ends the next morning in the worst way possible.

Now years later, Ella is stranded on a tropical island with a hurricane bearing down, and only Tyler can save her. It’s his chance to make amends for the past and show the woman he’s never forgotten that he’s coming after her . . . in more ways than one.

Available From

The sun shone overhead, the temperature neared ninety, and the humidity was hair-curlingly high on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, making it hard to believe a hurricane was coming soon. Ella Shaw glanced up at the blue sky, knowing it wouldn’t remain pristine for long.

The calm before the storm.

She pulled her hair into a high ponytail and headed out of her hotel, determined to hit the local gift shop she’d caught sight of on her way to the photo shoot yesterday. She’d seen long, draping, blue-beaded necklaces from the storefront window, but she hadn’t had time to stop. Her boss was a stickler for getting the right shot in the exact light, and they’d worked well past dark. By the time they’d wrapped for the day, the store had been closed.

As an assistant for Angie Crighton, a fashion designer based in Miami, Ella was responsible for the little details involved in a photo shoot. And though Angie, the photographer, and models had left the island this morning, Ella had stayed to make sure the shooting site was clean, the hotel pleased enough to allow them back another time. And if she were honest with herself, she liked the downtime after the craziness of a photo shoot, the rushing around of the crew, the bossiness of some of the models and, of course, of Angie herself.

Ella appreciated the fact that she had time to souvenir shop for her best friend, Avery Dare. How ironic was it that the two girls from very different worlds had met at all? But they had. And it was Avery who’d introduced Ella to the finer things in life, leading her to seek out a job with an haute-couture designer. Whereas Avery came from a wealthy family, Ella had been raised firmly middle class, but the two girls had bonded instantly. They’d even shared an apartment until recently, when her best friend had moved in with her rock star boyfriend, Grey Kingston.

Yep, two different worlds, even now, Ella thought wryly. But their friendship was solid. Which reminded her, she needed to let Avery know she might not make it back to the States tomorrow as planned.

When Ella had heard about the storm changing course, she’d tried to book an earlier flight out, without success. She shivered at the possibility of being stranded here alone during a hurricane and knew Avery would like the news even less. Her best friend suffered from severe anxiety, and Ella didn’t like to make her worry.

She’d just buy Avery an extra gift to make up for it, she thought, walking into the shop. She immediately headed to the turquoise-blue beads she’d seen through the window. The shopkeeper claimed they were Larimar beads. Even if they were fake, the beads, popular in the Caribbean, were said to have healing powers. Ella purchased two dozen, a mix of bracelets and necklaces, so she could share with the children at the cancer treatment center where she and Avery volunteered.

Avery had been nine, Ella ten years old when they’d met at a Miami hospital, both donating bone marrow, both there at the behest of a parent. Neither of them really understanding what was happening. All Ella had known was that she was doing a favor for her father, helping the stepmother Ella didn’t like all that much to begin with. Even at a young age, Ella had been a good judge of character, a better one than her father, obviously, because shortly after Janice had gotten well, she’d left Ella’s dad. And both her father and Ella’s life had gone downhill from there. Ella shook off the thoughts of her past before she could go deeper and darker, and focused on the pretty jewelry.

She spent some time choosing a thick turquoise bracelet for Avery and a similar one for herself before paying for everything and waiting for the shopkeeper to wrap things up.

Bag in hand, she started back to the hotel, cutting through side streets and looking into the windows of the stores, soaking up the culture along the cobblestone streets before heading back to Miami tomorrow. At least, she still hoped she’d be home. Knowing she couldn’t change the outcome, she pushed her worrisome thoughts aside. She’d deal with the situation as it came.

Sweat dampened her neck from the humidity of the island, and she contemplated taking a cab back to the hotel. She reached into her straw bag and pulled out her cell phone to make the call, when, without warning, she felt a hard jerk on her purse.

“What the—?” She spun around, but whomever wanted her purse was quicker.

She barely caught a glimpse of a tall guy with dark hair as he yanked harder, nearly pulling her shoulder out of its socket before slamming her against the nearby building with his other hand.

Her head hit the concrete wall, and spots immediately appeared behind her eyes from the impact. As she struggled not to pass out, the man grabbed her purse, along with her cell phone that had fallen to the ground.

She opened her mouth to scream, but nothing came out. Her legs collapsed beneath her, and she fell to the ground, her head smacking the sidewalk before everything went black.

Blurb:

EVERYTHING CHANGED IN AN INSTANT.
I thought I knew what was important, but one phone call sent my life into a tailspin. Alone and afraid, I clung to the one man I shouldn’t. I was warned about him and told to stay away. “He’s dangerous,” they said. But the man who could hurt me the most, gave me the greatest comfort. “He’s not who they think,” I told myself. But just like an illusion, things are never what they seem.

I loved it so much……I had to share it twice.  If you read any books this year, make sure this is one of them!  – Christina, Nice Ladies, Naughty Books

REVIEW:

What Worked For Me:

Let me just say, I’m a fan of Chelle’s books.  However, while excited to read this book I wasn’t jumping on pins and needles because the blurb just didn’t tell me enough to get me excited in a huge way.  A BIG MISTAKE I shall never make again!  Because this book was raw and very, very real.  Callie, our heroine, is facing a very real battle in her life (since I do not want to give anything away, I will not reveal what it is).  Her struggle is heartbreaking and gut-wrenching and emotional and I can honestly say it has been years since I have been moved in such a profound and thought provoking way.  She was charming, bitchy, and loving and I have never cheered so hard or been so moved by a heroine in all my years of reading.  Her hero, Bruno, is her perfect counterpart for her fight.  He is amazing and generous and written so beautifully that I think every woman deserves a man like this, most especially when the stakes in life are as high as they are for Callie.  Together, this couple is masterful in Callie’s battle and the emotional mind field written in this book is unlike anything I have ever read and they are sure to stay with me no matter what books I read in the future.  I must add as a side note….Bruno’s family.  I love his family.  His sister especially but even more so, his parents.  With such strong emotions being evoked in this book, the Bruno parents provide a breathtaking amount of laughter and warmth that make me even happier for Callie and her happy ending.  I have no doubt that Enshrine, with its smoking hot cover and heart-stopping yet awe-inspiring love story, will be one of my top 5 reads not only of the entire year, but most definitely my entire life.  Kudos, Chelle, for telling us a story showing love can endure all things and reminding us it’s the little things that make up an amazing life!

Excerpt:

I look around and see a guy staring at me. He’s about my age, not much taller than my five feet five inches, cute, and wearing a suit and tie. I start to wave to see if he’s the one I’m meeting, but then another guy catches my attention. He’s about six three and huge, and I don’t mean just in height; his body looks like it’s been chiseled from stone. He’s wearing black boots, washed-out blue jeans, and a white t-shirt, and every piece of skin exposed is covered with tattoos. His ears have those gauge thingies in them. His dark blond hair is cut low on the sides, and the top is in a fauxhawk. His jaw is strong, with a few days of stubble, and his eyes are so blue that they almost look like contacts. He is beautiful in a way that is unusual but no less gorgeous.

His eyes come to me before looking away quickly, and the next second, they come back to me and do a head-to-toe sweep. I gulp at the intense expression on his face. I glance past him to the other guy—or at least try to—but Mr. Tattoo starts towards me, blocking my view. I want to take a step back, but I can’t go anywhere. Then I see my phone in his hand.

“This yours?” he asks.

I nod like an idiot. He shakes his head, running his free hand down his face, and then his eyes sweep over me again.

“You have got to be fucking kidding me,” he says, seeming upset.

I look down at myself, wondering how I could’ve offended him. I look normal—or my working-outside-the-house normal. When I’m at home working, I wear baggy sweats I cut off to make shorts or pajama pants that hang off of me along with tank tops or T-shirts. The few days a week I get out of the house, I like to dress up or at least wear heels.

“This cannot be fucking happening,” he growls, and I wonder if he is completely crazy.

“What?” I ask, finally finding my voice. I have to tilt my head way back; even in my four-inch heels, he still towers over me.

“You.”

“Me, what?” I ask, confused.

“Never mind. Who is this?” He presses the button on my phone, the screen lights up, and a picture of Jamie Dornan wearing nothing but a pair of jeans takes up the screen.

“Um…that’s Jamie,” I reply, wondering why he is asking but too afraid to ask him; the look on his face isn’t very inviting for conversation.

“He your man?”

“I wish,” I mumble under my breath and hear him growl.

My head flies back as I search his face; his jaw is ticking, and his knuckles of the hand holding my phone are turning white.

“What does that mean?” he asks.

“That’s Jamie Dornan. He’s playing Fifty. I don’t know him.” I feel my cheeks heat up and look down at my feet.

What the hell’s wrong with me? Why am I not afraid right now? I have been scared of virtually everything my whole life, and now, when I should be running for cover, I’m not scared at all. Just a little embarrassed.

“I don’t have time for this,” he says, and I don’t know what he’s talking about, but I all of a sudden really want my phone out of his hand before he crushes it to smithereens.

When I look up again, I see that he is walking away. My eyebrows come together, and I wonder what he is doing. Then I realize he still has my cell.

“Hey! You can’t steal my phone!” I run after him, grabbing his arm.

He looks down at me then stops short. I’m completely caught off guard when he wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me flush against him. His free hand goes into my hair and pulls my head back, and then he kisses me. No, not kisses—he consumes me. My body starts to buzz like someone just plugged me into an electrical outlet, and I start to feel lightheaded. When he pulls his mouth from mine, I gasp, my fingers going to my lips.

“What was that?” I whisper, looking into his eyes.

“What’s your name?” he asks, still holding me close.

“Sophie,” I tell him, my answer spoken behind my fingers.

His body is as hard as a rock against mine; I can feel every muscle, every contour, and it takes everything in me to keep breathing. I realize this is the first time in my life I have ever felt small, my curvy figure never having allowed it before.

“Sophie,” he repeats, standing up to his full height and pulling me with him. I look around and wonder if time has stopped for anyone else. “My name is Nico.”

“Of course it is,” I say, staring into his amazing eyes, thinking that a guy who looks like him would have a name like that—cool and hot, something that rolls easily off your tongue but is hard to forget.

“I’ll see you when I get back into town, Sophie,” he says as he lets me go, making sure I’m steady on my feet.

“What?” I ask, looking around again.

“Here’s your phone.” He hands me my cell, and I’m still a little lightheaded when he starts to walk off again. I watch in a daze as he leaves, but then he turns around to face me from a few yards away. “Sophie?”

“Yeah?”

“Change the picture on your phone,” he demands before he turns and disappears into the crowd.

ARC REVIEW – In Your Corner by Sarah Castille

Blurb:

He rules in the ring Two years ago, Jake and Amanda were going hot and heavy. But when Jake wanted more, Amanda walked away. Jake immersed himself in mixed martial arts, living life on the edge. But that didn’t dull the pain of Amanda’s rejection-until a chance encounter throws them together. A high-powered lawyer, Amanda was a no-strings-attached kind of girl. But two years after her breakup with Jake, she still hasn’t found anyone who gets her heart pumping the way he did. And then he shows up in her boardroom, hot as sin and needing help… But can he rule her heart? Jake is darker, sexier, and impossible to resist. As their chemistry builds, Amanda’s not sure if she can stay in control, or if she’s finally willing to let him claim her body and soul.

What Worked For Me:

Holy Smokes! I was feverishly looking forward to In Your Corner after reading Against the Ropes and I’m happy to report the this book was worth the wait. We meet Jake and Amanda in Against the Ropes and Ms. Castille finally tells us exactly how things fell apart for them and how they are going to get back to where they are. Jake, our hero, is delicious. Quite simply, there isn’t much about him that I don’t like. He is a phenomenally charismatic man who is strong and sexy and has put up with more than a bit of push and pull where Amanda is concerned. I love him and he is one of the most delicious male leads I have read about in quite awhile. Amanda is a very complex heroine. I had some initial dislike of her and spent most of this book disliking her even more. However, once you get a glimpse of what drives her, you can’t help but root for her and hope she pulls her head out of her rear long enough to realize what a great thing she has with Jake. The plot was good and kept me entertained and I look forward to reading more about the fighter’s in her next book.

What Didn’t Work For Me:

While I did eventually warm up to Amanda, it took longer than I expected because we’ve seen her act like a total nut for a whole book (Against the Ropes) and a half (In Your Corner). While her life has not been perfect and her parents weren’t the greatest, she came off as very selfish and childish for most of the book. It was hard to like her after not caring much for her for so long.
