Review – The Lucky Heart by Devney Perry

Earlier this year, Devney Perry exploded into the book world with her first book, The Coppersmith Farmhouse.  It was a beautiful and moving introduction to a brand new author.  I was immediately hooked.  Her latest addition to the Jamison Valley Series is no exception!  The Lucky Heart was phenomenal.  I have been excited for the story of Silas from the very beginning and Ms. Perry did not disappoint.  He was magnificent as a hero….kind, courageous, brave…and very much in love with Felicity.  He can’t even remember a time when he didn’t love her and the way he expresses this love completely wrecked me as a reader.  Now Felicity… heart broke for her.  Over and over, the burden she carried upon her shoulders brought me to tears.  She was such a strongly written character and when she finally broke, I wept.  And still, she kept marching on.  The journey that is Felicity and Silas was beautiful and poetic.  There was laughter, tears, and new beginnings.  The sex scenes were erotic yet tastefully done with just the right amount of heat and plenty of emotion.  The plot was fast paced and easy to follow along with and kept me entertained from the very beginning. There were a few moments of suspense and we have the perfect set-up for the next book to come.  You are even introduced to a couple new characters (can I just say, I loved Silas’ friend who pops in for a visit and decides to stay.  He’s a charmer, for sure)!  I had quite a few moments of gut-clenching laughter and even a moment or two of angst thrown in for spice.  Felicity is a firebrand and Silas is the hand that allows her to burn bright but not damage.  The integration of previous characters was wonderful and allows us to catch up with them and all that is going on in their lives as well.  Overall, this is a love story about forgiveness….for yourself and for the wrongs others have done to you.  The Lucky Heart was utter perfection and Ms. Perry is an author who can weave a beautiful story that will suck you in and leave you breathless.  I can’t wait for the next installment in this series! 5 stars!

Review – The Soul Mate by Kendall Ryan

Oh sweet baby Jesus!  I just can’t even tell you! GAH!  This book was unbelievable.  And the best part, it fit in with this series but it was completely different from the other books!  Like blow my mind, different!  This was me…….

Mainly because, the other books in this series followed a pattern.  I was comfortable with that because it worked on so many levels for me as a reader.  But Ms Ryan decided to throw in an extra-special element to this book…is she or is she not pregnant?  Let me tell you how amazing the journey to that discovery was.  We got to watch a couple get to know each other while wondering if they are having a baby.  Now, I can’t tell you why this is different because I really do not want to spoil this book.  The twist itself, other than the fact that he’s her OBGYN is going to remain my secret.  But rest assured…MY MIND WAS BLOWN.  And, I was hooked.  These two meet and it’s an instant connection.  Honestly, this author can write instant chemistry like no ones business.  “Soul Mate” at first sight is not a problem and it’s written so realistically, there really is no author with comparable talent.  But our heroine has a skewed perception about relationships and this does not bode well for our hero (who incidentally is super-hot and amazingly romantic).  Bren, our heroine, fascinated me.  From her job to the way she lived her life, everything about her was different and I found this to be such a refreshing change from the other heroines I’ve always liked.  Her take on relationships doesn’t extend past gratification and her reasons why are valid.  It didn’t make me like her any less, either.  Now Mason, he fell for Bren at first sight and when she scoots out before he can even get her number, he is not a happy camper.  It’s cramping his style and his friends notice.  It’s like the male and female characters swapped normal patterns in this relationship.  Quite entertaining! But one missed period later and our heroine finds herself in the offices of the cities most popular OB and their lives collide once again.  Now, I can’t tell you much more than that but what I can tell you is that the journey this author takes you on from there is better than the best roller coaster you’ve ever been on (or, for those of you faint at heart, the best lazy river you have ever relaxed in).  Getting to know someone on a soul deep level the way these two do was so beautiful.  I freaking LOVED it!  Gah!  And this ending!  Holy crap.  This book was so wonderful, I can’t even express it adequately!  At the end I couldn’t decide if I needed a Kleenex, a cigarette, or a shot of tequila….but I do know I needed new panties!  Loved, loved, LOVED this book!  I know you will too!  5 stars!  Ms. Ryan….bring on the next one because this blogger is ready….once she picks herself up from the floor!profile_2__faint_antebellum_lady_by_renfaire_gal-d4vdiuq

Review – My Hot Boss by Betty Shreffler

My Hot Boss was the first book I have read by Betty Shreffler and it will not be the last. When we meet our heroine, Emma, she is drinking away her troubles in a bar. Determined to leave with a man for the night, things start to go awry when she meets our hero, Grayson.  From there, the poor girl is finds herself entrenched in one embarrassing episode after another.  I really liked Emma.  She is fun and smart and very much tired of being treated like dirt by her boyfriends.  She is passionate about her job and her relationships with her friends are equally telling in how devoted and loyal she is to those around her.  Even better, her hilarious hijinks do nothing to dissuade Grayson. The poor man finds himself smitten from the very beginning.  Grayson was very hard for me to read at first….he was hot one minute and cool the next.  I have to say, it took me awhile to warm up to him.  But once I did, he was a pretty great guy.  They had some hot chemistry, on top of a great working relationship.  Surprisingly, Grayson had a sweet side I didn’t expect and alpha male tendencies that were a complete surprise! Together, the sparks between them are dynamite and the sex scenes were erotic and plentiful!  I love a hero with a dirty mouth and Grayson has a fabulous one. There is some angst and office shenanigans and one woman Emma worked with that was a complete witch!!!  The book held my attention the entire time and I was very satisfied with the ending.  Reading My Hot Boss was definitely a wonderful way to spend a weekend afternoon.  From beginning to end this book entertained me.  I am definitely looking forward to the next book by Ms. Shreffler and will be adding her past work to my reading library.  She has a real way with words that is both emotional and lighthearted.  Definitely an author to keep your eyes on. 4 stars.
Title: My Hot Boss
Author: Betty Shreffler
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 15, 2017

From the moment I met Grayson Cole, I knew he was someone I wanted to let in my panties and maybe, even in my heart. One night, one sexy-as-sin kiss, and several drinks later, our incredible evening turns into a disaster and I’m apologizing for the vomit spatter on his fancy, black shoes. I never thought I’d see him again after that, no matter how many nights I spent wishing I would. Until a month later, he waltzes into my office as—MY NEW, HOT BOSS. I’m so screwed.

She was meant to be a fun f*ck. That’s all I wanted. That’s all I needed. But Emma Williams could never be just that for me. The quirky, brunette vixen challenges me at every opportunity. My desire to have her has me working for her affections, like I’ve never done before. What is this woman doing to me? Not only am I her Boss, but I don’t do feelings. There’s only one way I see this ending. I’m f*cked for sure.

Betty Shreffler is a self-proclaimed nerd and nature enthusiast obsessed with folklore, photography, writing, reading, movies, board games, hiking, gardening and spending time with her husband and five fur babies. Not necessarily in that exact order though. During her outdoor adventures she’s been face to face with an alligator, a bear and a coyote, making for some of the most memorable experiences of her life. She loves to capture and share the world’s beauty through the lens of her beloved Nikon camera. Her work experience has been diverse from working as a Ranger for the National Park Service to management positions in Fortune 500 companies. She’s lived in four different states and moved homes twelve times. She received a BA in organizational management and minor in sociology, although her heart has always belonged to writing and photography. Growing up, she read romance or supernatural novels and jotted down poems and short stories to express her emotions and alleviate the characters’ voices in her head. Not much has changed, only now her stories are lengthier and her characters more interesting.

Review – Well Built by Carly Phillips & Erika Wilde

I very much enjoyed this latest book by the dynamic writing duo Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde. Kyle, our hero, is definitely hot stuff but he’s even better at romance.  The way he reintroduces himself to Ella pretty much made me want to strangle him, I will not lie. But, he finds a way to redeem himself and it was easier to forgive him once Ella did.  He definitely made me swoon more than once, especially in his quest to win back the love of his life, Ella.  Ella’s world was shattered in the blink of an eye years ago and in re-building her life, there is little room for romance.  What broke up Kyle and Ella was tragic and brought tears to my eyes.  Ella is very independent and the way Kyle stormed back into her life almost made me hate him (I think I said that already but it bears repeating).  Ella shows us how to be strong and brave and face that which hurts us and to move on and accept things as they are.  She definitely takes on too much in regards to the way the past is effecting her future and when she finally stands up and takes what she wants, I cheered for her!  She was truly a wonderful and refreshing heroine.  There was tons of passion and chemistry at play here.  Really, when it comes to sex scenes, these two authors are top notch writers!  They invoke so much emotion mixed with decadent eroticism, it’s hard to find their match.  The storyline was easy to follow along with and kept my attention the entire time.  I loved seeing previous characters and look forward to reading the story of Kyle’s business partner.  You can expect an unforgettable reconciliation and plenty of steamy encounters with some forgiveness and acceptance thrown in for good measure.  Overall, this was another wonderful book by Ms. Wilde and Ms. Phillips and I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series!  4.5 stars.

Well Built by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde

Date of Publication: July 25, 2017

When it comes to women, sexy, well-built Kyle Coleman has always been a lover, not a fighter. His one exception? The sassy, tempting, smart-mouthed Ella Fisher. Her family and his are sworn enemies, which make the two of them off-limits—despite the fact that she’s inspired some of his dirtiest, most erotic fantasies for years. But when the lines between animosity and lust become irrevocably blurred one fateful evening, their one night stand leads to a very unexpected consequence—that changes everything between them forever.

Review – Perilous Trust by Barbara Freethy

This book had so much suspense, it gave me a headache, but of the best kind.  This was the first book I have read by Barbara Freethy, but it will not be the last.  Damon, our hero, is dark and twisty and very closed off from any type of commitment to anything other than his job and his friends.  But in a moment of pure weakness, he comes across our heroine, Sophie and together these two get lost in each other.  Fast forward 4 years and these two thought they would never see each other again but Sophie’s father is Damon’s boss and mentor and their lives are thrown together once more.  I really enjoyed the character of Damon, although he’s in a little bit more in denial about his feelings towards Sophie than I normally like in my heroes.  I was a little apprehensive about him, honestly, but he quickly grew on me, especially given his commitment to keep Sophie safe.  However, I fell head-over-heels in love with him when he made a choice I did not see coming.  Sophie is reeling after the death of her father.  But this girl is made of some pretty stern stuff.  I love smart and determined heroines and Sophie was one of kind….brilliant and completely real.  She had no idea of her strength and honestly, as the hits kept coming, I myself would have just sat down and cried.  But not Sophie.  She just keeps on going.  There was not as much chemistry between our characters at the very beginning but it quickly went from a low smolder to an out of control blaze….especially when they are running for their lives.  I loved seeing their relationship progress from one-night-stand-long-ago to can’t-live-without-you-must-have-you-now.  It was truly raw and honest.  This book had a great plot, full of action and suspense.   There are some great secondary characters who I can’t wait to have their stories told.  The plot twists were pretty awesome and even better, I couldn’t figure out who the actual bad guy was (something suspense books frequently give away before the end and a wonderful surprise when they don’t) and the ending was satisfying and happy.  Overall, I enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series! 4.5 stars.

“Why did you run away from your apartment, your friends, your father’s coworkers? Why did you just disappear, Sophie?” Damon asked.

“Because someone killed my dad.”

“It’s possible it was an accident.”

“You don’t believe that any more than I do.”

“Maybe not, but I think something specific spooked you.”

“You mean like the two men I saw going into my apartment building?”

“You saw the men who broke into your apartment?” he asked in surprise.

“I don’t know if they were the ones, but they could have been.”

“What did they look like?”

“Law enforcement, maybe—I don’t know.”

Damon stared back at her, and she could see him running through her words in his head. “Why would you be afraid of law enforcement when your father is FBI?”

“Gut instinct,” she lied, knowing she wouldn’t have been afraid at all if her father hadn’t told her to be. “And it looks like I was right to run. If I’d gone to my apartment, who knows what would have happened?”

His lips drew into a hard line. “Look, Sophie, I want to help you.”

“Why? Why on earth would you want to help me?”

His gaze darkened, and the air sizzled between them as they found themselves back in a place probably neither of them wanted to revisit, but they were there all the same.

“We’re not friends,” she said quickly, needing to break the tension. “We’re not anything. We haven’t seen each other in four years. Why do you care where I am, what I’m doing? Is it because of loyalty to my dad? That has to be it, right? Nothing else could have made you drive all the way up here.”

“I should have called you after that night,” he said.

“I’m not looking for an apology.”

“Aren’t you?”

“No. Maybe. No,” she said, hating to sound so uncertain. “None of that is important now. I have bigger problems.”

“Then let’s talk about now,” he said, relief in his eyes as he changed the subject. “I respected your father. He was a mentor to me. I owe him for that, and I know that he would want me to help you. He trusted me, and I hope you can trust me, too.”

“I don’t know if my father trusted you,” she said, shaking her head.

Surprise and anger flared in his eyes. “Why would you say that?”

“Because he told me not to trust anyone from the bureau, and since you’re an agent, that includes you. Please, just go. Just leave me alone,” she pleaded, desperate to get him out of the cabin before she did something even more stupid—like start to trust him. “I’ll disappear. I’ll go somewhere no one else knows about. You don’t have to worry about me. You’ve done your duty. You came after me. You did that for my dad. Now do something for me—leave me alone. You’ve managed it for four years. You can keep going.”

His mouth tightened. “I’m not leaving you alone. You won’t be safe. You can’t get help from a friend, because you’ll put them in danger, and even if you are very careful, you’ll make a mistake. You don’t know how to stay off the radar, but I do. You’re going to have to trust someone at some point. You’re going to have to put your anger aside and let it be me.”

Before she could answer, she was suddenly hit with a shower of glass from the nearby window.

What the hell had just happened?

Another pane blew out, and something whizzed by her ear.

Damon grabbed her arm and pulled down as a third window exploded.

Someone was shooting at her!

Review – Last Call by Emily Minton & Shelley Springfield

This was a great read by two wonderful authors.  Our hero, Lark, was fantastically swoon-worthy, albeit a little bit of a man-whore.  But he has a great sense of humor and a solid work ethic and when he spots Paisley, he decides his days of one-night stands are a thing of the past.  I love the camaraderie between him and his two best friends but I adore the way he is with Paisley.  Paisley is shy and quiet and unaware of her beauty, which drew me to her.  She is the perfect match for him.  Together, these two have some pretty amazing chemistry and the sex scenes were filled with emotion and a little bit of out-of-control passion.  They both have issues to overcome but Lark is the type of man who doesn’t take no for an answer, especially when he is pretty sure Paisley is the one for him….and ONLY him.  Paisley has a stubborn streak a mile wide which made me want to climb in the book and shake some sense into her more than once, but she comes around in a spectacular way. Talk about alpha male hotness mixed with desperation from Paisley to be with Lark!!!  I’m surprised my Kindle didn’t melt. It also has to be said that for a shy and quiet woman, this girl has a dirty mouth!  It rocked!!!  These two just fit in ways neither could fight nor deny.  There is one seriously crazy, around-the-bend character in this book….her craziness was beyond the norm and into loony bin territory, which added for some great suspense.  The plot was well written and engaging and I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end.  And the name of the bar?  Yes, I LOVED IT!!!  So very original and it gave me a good chuckle.  I’m excited to read the next books in this series.   Overall, this was a story I was  happy to have read and this is a series I think I’m going to like very much!  4 stars.

I want to taste her, have her flavor in my mouth. This is something I do not do. At least, not in a long damn time. I fuck. I do it hard and fast, getting my partner and myself off as quickly as possible. With other women, there is no damn way I would have even considered putting my mouth where so many others have been before. With Paisley, it’s different. I want to know all of her, every damn inch.
Grabbing the sides of her panties, I wait for her to lift her ass and pull them down her
legs. When I finally lay eyes on her glistening pussy, my mouth begins to
water. Her lips are a pretty shade of pink with her excitement causing them to
glisten with need. Her clit… Fuck, it’s amazing. It’s deep red, standing proud,
and begging for my attention.
I open her up with my fingers, sliding them from top to bottom. I coat them with her
juices and slowly push one inside of her. I add another and move them in and
out of her depths. She’s tight, so fucking tight that my cock thumps against my
zipper, wanting to get loose.
When she starts to whimper, I pull them out
and reach up to give her clit a gentle twist. I finally lower my head, getting
my first taste of her, and nearly lose my fucking mind. Her flavor is outstanding, amazing, like manna from heaven. It’s like nothing I have ever tasted before. There is no way to label it, other than simply delicious.
I slide my fingers into her again, crooking them just enough to add to her pleasure. My mouth goes to her clit, sealing over it and sucking it deep into my mouth. When
my teeth graze over her nub, her ass raises off the desk and she lets out a
“Yes!” she shouts, throwing her head back. “Just like that.”
I keep up my assault, gliding my fingers in and out, faster and faster. I suck harder,
using my teeth to add to the pleasure. Within seconds, she starts to contract around my fingers. She’s close, so fucking close. I want to get her there, have her come from just my mouth and fingers. Then later, I want her to do it again around my cock. Biting down with a little more force, I add a touch of pain to the game and push her over the edge.
“Oh my God,” she moans as she convulses around my fingers. “Lark.”
I smile around her clit and give it one more swipe of my tongue. After another few
seconds, not wanting to cut her pleasure short, I slowly slide my fingers out.
I give her sensitive pussy a quick pat and bring my fingers to my mouth to get
one last taste of her before standing up. Once I’m on my feet again, I reach
around and pull out my wallet.
“Hate to disappoint you, mon cheri, but I’m not God.” Taking out a condom, I shoot her a wink. “Just a simple man.”

Review – Biker B*tch by Andie J. Christopher

I thoroughly enjoyed this book although it took me a little bit to really get into it. Our hero, Travis has a history with Skyler and Skyler left town many years ago, never expecting to return and definitely never wanting to see Travis again.  But she has returned and Travis has locked eyes on her.  Their past makes it difficult to move forward and Travis is hell bent and determined to find a way back into her heart.  Travis was a great hero!  He was dominant and sexy and really has his life together.  He knows what he wants and pursues it with a vengeance.  And really, who doesn’t love a dirty talking hero who knows his way around a woman’s body?!?!  Skyler was a tougher nut to crack.  Her past has made her afraid to get close to Travis, especially since she knows he is part of an MC, which is something she feels played a part in destroying her life.  She is extremely headstrong and feisty and I love how she seemed unafraid to build a life from the ruins of her past.  She is as hell bent on staying away from Travis as he is to make her a part of his life. But these two are unable to deny the chemistry and kinship they feel towards each other.  The sex scenes are wonderfully written, full of eroticism and emotion.  The plot was well written and kept me engaged, once I was able to get past the slow beginning.  However, once the story picked up in pace, it was impossible to put it down!  The suspense was killer and there is violence, so brace yourself if you don’t like that in your books.  The secondary characters hold great promise and there are more than a few stories I would love to see written from them.  I loved Travis’ mom and she made me laugh out loud more than a few times.  Skyler’s best friend was both awesome and a jacka** rolled all into one character.  You couldn’t help but love him while wanting to strangle him!  This book evokes many different emotions from love to hate, anger to laughter.  Overall,  this was a great way to spend my afternoon and while it was the first book I have read by this author, it will not be the last.  4 stars.

Skylar Clarke has sworn off bikers. But Abner Travis, leader of the local motorcycle club, is the one thing she can’t resist

Skyler Clark knows she’ll have to face her past when returns to the Russian River Valley to make pinot noir. People in the small town where she grew up haven’t forgotten her father – a country doctor turned outlaw motorcycle club president – and his fall from grace. But as long as she keeps her own business squeaky clean and stays away from bikers, she’ll be fine. Abner Travis sold his family’s vineyard and winery to build up his business. And he’s the president of a clean motorcycle club that does things the overburdened sheriff’s department can’t. He’s too busy making sculptures for Hollywood directors and quietly sabotaging meth labs to chase a woman. But now that Skyler’s all grown up, he wants her for his own. He just has to convince her that their dark, shared history shouldn’t get in the way. Travis is the one thing Skyler can’t resist, but she doesn’t believe they can last. When her father’s old club puts Skyler’s business and safety at risk, she has to decide whether to place her trust in Travis or to walk away. And Travis has to decide how much he’ll give up to keep the woman he loves. Warning: Contains a dead sexy biker who will pull on your pigtails, but only if you beg.

She looked around as if she was afraid someone would see her. But all the workers lived off site. Any migrants she’d hired to pick the grapes wouldn’t be there for months. There was no one on the property except for the two of them.

“You heard me.” He could hear the edge to his voice. If he was a good guy, he’d talk to her softly, soothe her, tell her he trusted her, and carry her into the trailer and make sweet, gentle love to her.

But that’s not what she wanted. It wasn’t what got her so wet and soft under him. He stepped so close he could feel her breath against his throat. It was rapid, and she looked up. She uncrossed her arms and touched his wrists. He shook her grasp and reached around to the back of her dress.

He moved her hair over her shoulder and blew on the tiny little hairs at the back of her neck. She shivered, but otherwise remained still. The moment was ripe and even the birds and small animals went silent.

Nothing but stars and moonlight and them.

They were alone in the universe, and she belonged to him. She might move on to someone who could offer her more, but he’d always have her like this. When she’d married some rich friend of Michael’s, he’d have her like this.

He wanted to see her naked under the moonlight. When he drew down the zipper, he saw gooseflesh rise where the air hit her skin. She felt it, too. He pulled the dress over her shoulders and bared her to the waist except for the pearls and another lacy bit of nothing.

He flicked the pearls, and was about to rip the strand off. They just made him think about how good and pure she was. She quickly reached back for the clasp and unhooked them. He took them from her and pocketed them.

With one hand, he unhooked her bra and pulled it off her arms from the front. Her creamy tits glowed under the full moon and her nipples tightened to titanium in the cool night air. He bent down and blew on them.

“Goddamn, you have pretty tits.”

She just moaned because he picked her up by the arms and put her down on the flatbed of her truck. He reached for a blanket and tucked it under her ass. Though he wanted to savor the moment, he didn’t have the patience to go easy. The rusty flatbed would scrape up the soft skin on her thighs.

The push-pull of his feelings when he was with her was what made this thing between them compelling. He was always in control, except when he was around her. He liked surrendering to his instinct to mark, to have to mate when they were together.

She sat on the back of her truck with her dress around her waist and her boobs almost up at mouth level. He couldn’t let an opportunity like that go to waste. He bent down and took her nipple between his teeth, gently abrading it until it got even harder and she whimpered. She laced her fingers into his hair and pulled it half-loose. Her fingernails dug into his skull; he loved that little bite of pain that let him know she wanted this just as much as he did.

“Harder.” Her voice sounded like it was a half moan, and he wasn’t about to deny this woman anything she asked for, especially if it was something he wanted to give her. He moved to the other nipple and lifted her up to pull her dress down over her ass. When he got it free of her legs, he threw it on the sparse grass.

As good as she looked, he hoped the dress got ruined. It symbolized everything that would take this woman away from him.

He drew back his head and stared at her. Her panties matched the white bra he’d discarded somewhere on the lawn. And–Christ almighty—she  had a garter belt attached to stockings. The kind with lace on top.

“Never wear these again unless you’re coming to see me.” He grabbed her upper thigh and ground out the words. “I’m going to fuck you in nothing but these damned stockings and the heels.”

USA Today Bestselling author Andie J. Christopher writes edgy, funny, sexy contemporary romance. She grew up in a family of voracious readers, and picked up her first Harlequin Romance novel at age twelve when she’d finished reading everything else in her grandmother’s house. It was love at first read. It wasn’t too long before she started writing her own stories — her first heroine drank Campari and wore a lot of Esprit.

Although, she set aside writing fiction for a while, her love of romance novels stayed with her through college, law school, and multiple cross-country moves. During one long East Coast winter, she decided writing a book would be a good excuse to avoid braving the elements. It was love at first write. Her heroes are dirty-talking alphas, and her heroines traded Esprit for Free People. (None of them would turn down a Campari, though.)
