Review – Legal Seduction by Lisa Childs

REVIEW:

This is the first book that I have read by Lisa Childs, but it certainly won’t be the last.  Bette and Simon are our featured hero and heroine in this decidedly dirty love story…and I freaking adored Bette!  Bette is everything you want in a heroine.  She’s classy, smart, beautiful, kind, and has a very strong sense of self and what she wants out of life.  I loved her plucky attitude and the way she was able to stand toe-to-toe with Simon, without cowering like a simpering female.  Sure, she’s sexually attracted to him but she is a woman who knows her worth and she’s not afraid to say what she feels or what she thinks.  Simon, however….I will be very honest.  I almost stopped reading this book because of his attitude about himself.  It’s one thing to be confident, it’s another to be cocky and too much of thinking about how amazing you are pushes you right to the cocky attitude that I find to be a complete turn-off in my romance heroes (not to mention, I did get annoyed at how often Bette equated him to being blindingly gorgeous).  But, I’m glad I stuck with this because it ended up being a very good, sinfully entertaining book.  Bette and Simon have very obvious chemistry but Bette has plans outside of the legal field where Simon is a partner, and those plans don’t mesh well with Simon’s vicious business tactics.  Bette is moving on to greener pastures…but Simon isn’t quite ready to let her go without a fight.  Simon has more than one reason for trying to keep Bette close and when everything backfires…well brace yourself for some pretty heady fireworks.  This book has a great plot, very likable characters (if you can get over the whole “cocky lawyer” attitudes), and some pretty down and dirty sex scenes (which were perfect, and the main reason I decided to give this new line a try).  Overall, with the exception of having to warm up to my hero, this was a wonderful way to spend my afternoon and I’m on pins and needles for the next book in this series.  Ms. Childs has definitely piqued my interest and left me wanting more!  4 stars.

“So then more money will get you to stay,” he said dismissively, as if he’d closed a case. He tossed her crumpled-up resignation letter into the brass trash can sitting beside his desk.
Frustration—and not just with this conversation—overwhelmed her, overcoming her natural inclination to avoid confrontation, and she blurted out, “No!”
Working for him these past two years had increased her frustration because of all those damn fantasies he’d inspired.
“But you just said—”
“I took the job because I needed money,” she said. “I needed money then.”
His eyes narrowed more as he studied her face. “And you don’t need it now?”
“My reason for leaving has nothing to do with money,” she said. Had she not found another source of income, she would have been forced to stay, but he didn’t need to know that.
“So you do have a reason.”
He wasn’t the trial lawyer of their partnership, but he could have been. She felt like she was being cross-examined on the witness stand. And she didn’t enjoy it one bit. Quitting was not a crime.
“I don’t have to give you a reason.” At least she didn’t think she did.
Maybe she should have had a lawyer look at that employment contract before she’d written her resignation letter. But no matter how much she paid, no lawyer would be as good as Simon Kramer. He was the best.
And, according to his ex-lovers, not just at the law…
“Why don’t you want to tell me?” he asked, and he stepped closer now, so close that she could feel the heat of his body through his suit and her cardigan and skirt.
Heat flushed her body, making her skin tingle. She tried to step back but the desk stopped her, the hard wood pressing into the backs of her thighs as he nearly touched the front of her. Her breasts pushed against the front of the gray cardigan as she struggled for breath. She had never been this close to him before. It was more than unsettling. Her knees trembled and her already tripping pulse quickened even more.
“Because it’s personal,” she murmured. And they had never been anything but businesslike with each other, except in her dreams.
He leaned down, so close that his warm breath whispered across her lips as he asked, “Are you in love with me?”

REVIEW:

What a fabulous introduction to Harlequin’s most risque line to date.  Jack and Gemma are dynamite and I just don’t mean as far as their sexual activities go.  Jack is Gemma’s boss and what a demanding, broody, sexy, a**hole he can be. Seriously, you don’t know if you want to punch him or rip his clothes off.  Gemma is great.  She handles him like a pro and you almost don’t even know how desperately she lusts after him.  She is certainly no doormat and I admire her fortitude and grace, especially when I myself would have delivered a swift kick in the junk to Jack, had I been in her place.  She is plucky and smart and I adored her!!! Still, her downfall is her secret infatuation with Jack.  Jack plays on this because he is aware of it but never crosses a line.  However, with chemistry like theirs, there is no way to ignore the way the sparks fly and when they catch, they burn like a raging wildfire.  I loved the witty banter between the two of them but even more, I adored how Gemma so desperately tries to “fix” Jack and how Jack must grovel when he realizes she means more to him that he ever imagined. The sex scenes are fantastic, the plot fresh and fun with plenty of raunchy humor and sweet tender moments.  If this is the starting line of a marathon, Harlequin is sure to be the winner at the end of this race.  Entertaining, engaging, erotic…I DARE you to pick Off Limits up!  You won’t be disappointed!  5 stars!

I am holding my breath again. Is that how I’m going to get over this little hurdle? Suffocate myself? Is that even possible? I’m pretty sure we have some breathing trigger in our brains, but my brain is a bit pissy with me so maybe it would conveniently forget about the button.
I push air out consciously, quietly, and he takes his seat.
‘Anyway…’ I prompt impatiently.
His smile is a clicker. Is he laughing at me? Arrogant arsehole! That’s be just like him. See? That’s the problem! I know him. I’m not one of his other women. I know that is he as bastardy as he is sexy.
‘How did you sleep?’
I blink at him, my eyes wide. ‘You’ve already asked me that.’
‘You didn’t answer.’
I except a sign that speaks of anger. ‘Like I always do. Seriously, Jack. My desk is covered in paper. I have to get to work.’
‘I’m your work,’ he says with a shrug.
Insolent bastard.
He leans forward, and while his face is casual there is an urgency in the flecks of gold that fill his eyes. ‘Did you see him last night?’
I want to remind him of the salient fact I pointed out the night before. It’s not his damned business. But I’m not sure I can say that with such conviction now that I’ve tasted his mouth; now that I’ve been stunned by his desire.
Can I skirt around his question?
‘You’re my work? Okay, the thing is I have the New York guys waiting on contracts, you have a meeting in a week that I have to prepare for and Athens wants your input-which means my input- on a lease agreement. And I need to – ‘
‘Quiet.’
God! Don’t hate me, but when he’s bossy I love it. And he’s almost always bossy.
I glare at him across his desk; it’s best if he doesn’t know that this is just about my favourite version of him.’

The Bastard’s Bargain Excerpt

Copyright © 2018 Katee Robert

Dmitri Romanov didn’t permit himself to breathe a sigh of relief. This was only the first step in a path that could potentially span years. It didn’t matter. Keira was here—was his. He had time.

He watched her look around the inside of the town car, cataloging everything with those witchy hazel eyes of hers. The faint scent of pot filled the car, giving evidence to what she’d been up to when he called. The woman was a mess, but he’d known that from the moment he met her. Dmitri didn’t do projects. He preferred to be the one holding all the cards—it allowed him to anticipate how the people around him would act in any given situation.

He’d never been able to anticipate Keira. Not from the moment she picked his pocket and walked away from him as if she didn’t give a fuck about the danger he posed to her.

Likely because she has a goddamn death wish.

He’d deal with that, just like he’d deal with the rest of Keira’s issues. In time.

Right that moment, time was the one thing they didn’t have. Keira’s oldest brother would be returning to Boston within hours, and Dmitri fully intended to marry her before Aiden realized she was gone. It was significantly more difficult to oust a wife than it was a fiancée.

He had Keira now. He wasn’t going to let anyone take her.

She kicked her feet out, propping her chunky black boots on the seat. The long line of her bare legs drew his gaze up to her tiny sleep shorts. They were barely more than underwear, hugging her hips and ass. Her shirt wasn’t much better, for all that it was long-sleeved. It revealed a slice of pale stomach and was fitted enough that he had absolutely no doubts about the fact that Keira wore no bra. Her small breasts pressed against the fabric, and she shivered beneath the weight of his gaze.

Get control of yourself. He leaned forward and nudged her boots back to the floorboard. Taking Keira was part of the plan—fucking her in the backseat was not. “There’s no need for an adolescent tantrum.”

She laughed, the sound rough and pain filled. “God, would you listen to yourself? You just showed up at my window to lure me into the night—to a chapel—and now you’re bitching about my shoes on the seats? Russian, you have your priorities seriously out of order.” She flicked her long hair off her shoulder. She’d dyed it a harsh blond that seemed designed to highlight how unhealthily skinny she’d become in the last year.

She’s spiraling.

Not anymore.

“Our current situation is no reason to throw propriety out the window.” He sounded stuffy, and he hated it, but with her sitting so close, wearing clothing she’d just been sleeping in…Dmitri dragged in a breath. “Keep your shoes on the floor.”

“Or what?” She turned to face him. The move pulled her shirt even tighter against her chest, revealing the faintest outline of her nipples. Keira saw where his gaze went, and gave a bitter smile. “All the games, all the bullshit, and that hasn’t changed.” She leaned forward and hooked his collar with her finger, drawing him closer despite himself. “Tell me something, Romanov.”

“Hmm?” He dragged his gaze up to her mouth. The wicked curve of her lips was matched only by the words she threw into the space between them with such abandon. The woman wouldn’t know caution if it slapped her in the face.

“You’re dragging me to your cave to be your Bride of Frankenstein.” She shifted closer, her bare leg sliding over his slacks until her thigh came into contact with his cock.

He should move her. Set her back and explain that no matter what she thought of the situation, she wasn’t in control. But the ring he’d put on her finger winked at him, a reminder that Keira wasn’t the sister of his enemy anymore. She was his.

Or she would be in a few short hours.

He bracketed her thigh with a hand, keeping her in place, but didn’t touch her anywhere else. There was no masking his reaction to her, not in their position. Dmitri didn’t bother trying. “Calling me Frankenstein is more than a bit dramatic.”

She looked up at him, her eyes holding a question he didn’t have a satisfying answer to. “I think it’s time to stop being in denial, don’t you?”

He recognized the direction she was headed. “You know I want you. I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t.”

Just like that, the shutters slammed down on her expression. She sat back and he let her go, watching her pull herself together. Her spine went ramrod straight, and she stared at the back of the driver’s head rather than at Dmitri. She crossed her arms over her chest. “No lies between us. That’s what you said. You want me, sure, but don’t pretend any of this bullshit has to do with sex. You need to prove what an international badass you are by marrying the sister of your enemy. An eye for an eye—a wife and a sister. Remember?”

He knew exactly what she was quoting. The note he’d had delivered to Aiden O’Malley just over a year ago. By my count, you owe me both a wife and a sister. I’ll be content with one of yours. He hadn’t realized Keira had seen it.

Twin possibilities spun out between them. She was scared and vulnerable, and if he told her that it was her he wanted and not what she represented, she would believe him. It would even be the truth, at least in part. He hadn’t been able to get Keira out of his head from the moment he met her, and he’d manipulated events to ensure they reached this exact moment.

Telling her that wasn’t telling her the full truth, though. This wasn’t some great love story where he’d been pining for her while her family kept them apart. Dmitri wanted her, yes. He craved the feeling of her body beneath his hands, her taste on his tongue, and her smart mouth around his cock.

But his craving her had no real relevance in the grand scheme of things. He needed one of the O’Malley daughters to regain his status after the blows the family had dealt him over the last two years. Keira was the only option left.

Liar.

It didn’t matter what the truth was, full or otherwise. What mattered was ensuring Keira toed the line. He sat back, trying to ignore the throbbing of his cock, and studied her. “You knew what this was when you climbed out your window and stepped between me and your brother.”

She finally met his gaze, her hazel eyes fiery in their defiance. “Yes, I did.”

I have to be more cautious. From the rising volume of the squeals emanating from the backyard, cake consumption has concluded and the party will be wrapping up as the sugar highs hit, the early departers fleeing past my RV parked out front. Spotting the princess in an R-rated embrace with a biker would be bad for my business. You can’t be a dirty girl and host children’s birthday parties for a living. The moms will kill you. Fortunately, the moms aren’t mind readers. I’m only a party-perfect princess on the outside. Riding anywhere with Rev would be career suicide.
My bad voice promptly weighs in. But only if you get caught.
“I don’t do bikers.”
Something flashes across Rev’s face. “You don’t get hurt on my watch. I promise.”
“You’re not an ax murderer?”
He reaches into his pocket and pulls out the wallet attached to his belt by a silver chain. Silently, he flips it open and holds it out so I can read his driver’s license. There’s a military ID underneath it, too, the kind of card that gets you into Nellis Air Force Base.
“Your name isn’t Rev.” According to the State of Nevada’s laminated plastic, he’s one Jaxon Brady.
“Road name,” he says tersely.
I examine the license again. He’s also turning thirty-three in four weeks. I bet he won’t be booking a celebratory princess party.
“Wow.” I hand back his wallet. “Former navy?”
He nods, as if it’s no big deal. “SEAL. You’d be safe with me.”
He’s not big on talking. Or negotiating, asking, or sweet-talking. I’ve always trusted my instincts, though, and right now they’re on board with Rev Brady. Completely, totally, 100 percent in favor of getting on this man’s bike and riding off with him. Somewhere. Wherever he wants to go. He’s big and strong and tempting. He’s fought for our country and kept everyone safe.
How bad can he be?
The little voice in my head pipes right up. How bad do you want him to be?
That voice needs a gag.
“Think about it,” he says and then he turns and saunters toward his bike. I stand there, watching his ass the whole way, and wondering why I don’t mind his attitude. He’s scary as shit. He’s not Mr. White Picket Fence and he’s not promising happily ever after, but the man has a fantastic butt and I’m lonely. That’s all it is. I need to get out more, need to make a point of seeing someone.
Someone else.
Anyone else. There are absolutely, positively no bikers anywhere in my future.

The man occupying her thoughts swept up beside her on a cloud of freshly showered deliciousness, his hand taking a proprietorial hold of the back of her barstool and his smoky, heavy-lidded smile stripping her naked.
Alex.
‘Hi.’ Libby closed her slack-jawed mouth and swivelled to face him, turning her back on the stranger, never one to pass up a golden opportunity. She hated rudeness, but if Beer Breath was too stubborn or thick-skulled to take the hint…
Alex kept his stare on her, his smile genuine and warm enough to melt her underwear clean off, and then signalled the waiter with a flick of his wrist.
Libby sensed the moment when Beer Breath slinked away, and the hairs on the back of her neck settled—but only temporarily, because Alex hadn’t taken his eyes off her. In fact, he was looking at her as if he was seconds from devouring her whole.
She shivered, delicious tendrils snaking to all her erogenous zones. ‘What are you doing here?’ Libby took a slug of her previously untouched drink, the burn calming her enough to meet his bold stare with one of her own.
‘I came to invite you out for a late supper. I was on my way to Reception and then I spotted you here.’ His hand slid from the back of her stool, and he settled into the one next to her, passing his order to the waiter before returning his disconcerting focus to her.
She stared back, lost for words and missing the proximity of his hand on her chair. He was close enough that his warmth traversed the space between them, but far enough away that she battled her body’s urge to sway closer. And keep on swaying.
‘What?’ One corner of his mouth kicked up. ‘What kind of host would I be if I left you to fend for yourself on your first night in a strange city?’
She couldn’t help the snort that left her. ‘The non-stalker kind…?’
He took the jibe with a cocksure arch of one brow, sipping wine while his poised stare flicked over her face from feature to feature.
Libby flushed hot all over. The ‘stalker’ comment had been beneath her. He hadn’t once touched her, hadn’t bought her drink, hadn’t tried to grab her phone, hadn’t even chased away her unwanted admirer—he had simply given her the out she’d wanted. The rest was all her.
What was wrong with her? Rudeness to a generous host and influential employer? All because he’d awoken needs within her? Needs too long dormant. Needs she’d never had before. Needs threatening to overwhelm her in their intensity.
Hardly his fault.

Review – Biker B*tch by Andie J. Christopher

Review:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book although it took me a little bit to really get into it. Our hero, Travis has a history with Skyler and Skyler left town many years ago, never expecting to return and definitely never wanting to see Travis again.  But she has returned and Travis has locked eyes on her.  Their past makes it difficult to move forward and Travis is hell bent and determined to find a way back into her heart.  Travis was a great hero!  He was dominant and sexy and really has his life together.  He knows what he wants and pursues it with a vengeance.  And really, who doesn’t love a dirty talking hero who knows his way around a woman’s body?!?!  Skyler was a tougher nut to crack.  Her past has made her afraid to get close to Travis, especially since she knows he is part of an MC, which is something she feels played a part in destroying her life.  She is extremely headstrong and feisty and I love how she seemed unafraid to build a life from the ruins of her past.  She is as hell bent on staying away from Travis as he is to make her a part of his life. But these two are unable to deny the chemistry and kinship they feel towards each other.  The sex scenes are wonderfully written, full of eroticism and emotion.  The plot was well written and kept me engaged, once I was able to get past the slow beginning.  However, once the story picked up in pace, it was impossible to put it down!  The suspense was killer and there is violence, so brace yourself if you don’t like that in your books.  The secondary characters hold great promise and there are more than a few stories I would love to see written from them.  I loved Travis’ mom and she made me laugh out loud more than a few times.  Skyler’s best friend was both awesome and a jacka** rolled all into one character.  You couldn’t help but love him while wanting to strangle him!  This book evokes many different emotions from love to hate, anger to laughter.  Overall,  this was a great way to spend my afternoon and while it was the first book I have read by this author, it will not be the last.  4 stars.

Skylar Clarke has sworn off bikers. But Abner Travis, leader of the local motorcycle club, is the one thing she can’t resist

Skyler Clark knows she’ll have to face her past when returns to the Russian River Valley to make pinot noir. People in the small town where she grew up haven’t forgotten her father – a country doctor turned outlaw motorcycle club president – and his fall from grace. But as long as she keeps her own business squeaky clean and stays away from bikers, she’ll be fine. Abner Travis sold his family’s vineyard and winery to build up his business. And he’s the president of a clean motorcycle club that does things the overburdened sheriff’s department can’t. He’s too busy making sculptures for Hollywood directors and quietly sabotaging meth labs to chase a woman. But now that Skyler’s all grown up, he wants her for his own. He just has to convince her that their dark, shared history shouldn’t get in the way. Travis is the one thing Skyler can’t resist, but she doesn’t believe they can last. When her father’s old club puts Skyler’s business and safety at risk, she has to decide whether to place her trust in Travis or to walk away. And Travis has to decide how much he’ll give up to keep the woman he loves. Warning: Contains a dead sexy biker who will pull on your pigtails, but only if you beg.

Excerpt:

“Unzip.”

She looked around as if she was afraid someone would see her. But all the workers lived off site. Any migrants she’d hired to pick the grapes wouldn’t be there for months. There was no one on the property except for the two of them.

“You heard me.” He could hear the edge to his voice. If he was a good guy, he’d talk to her softly, soothe her, tell her he trusted her, and carry her into the trailer and make sweet, gentle love to her.

But that’s not what she wanted. It wasn’t what got her so wet and soft under him. He stepped so close he could feel her breath against his throat. It was rapid, and she looked up. She uncrossed her arms and touched his wrists. He shook her grasp and reached around to the back of her dress.

He moved her hair over her shoulder and blew on the tiny little hairs at the back of her neck. She shivered, but otherwise remained still. The moment was ripe and even the birds and small animals went silent.

Nothing but stars and moonlight and them.

They were alone in the universe, and she belonged to him. She might move on to someone who could offer her more, but he’d always have her like this. When she’d married some rich friend of Michael’s, he’d have her like this.

He wanted to see her naked under the moonlight. When he drew down the zipper, he saw gooseflesh rise where the air hit her skin. She felt it, too. He pulled the dress over her shoulders and bared her to the waist except for the pearls and another lacy bit of nothing.

He flicked the pearls, and was about to rip the strand off. They just made him think about how good and pure she was. She quickly reached back for the clasp and unhooked them. He took them from her and pocketed them.

With one hand, he unhooked her bra and pulled it off her arms from the front. Her creamy tits glowed under the full moon and her nipples tightened to titanium in the cool night air. He bent down and blew on them.

“Goddamn, you have pretty tits.”

She just moaned because he picked her up by the arms and put her down on the flatbed of her truck. He reached for a blanket and tucked it under her ass. Though he wanted to savor the moment, he didn’t have the patience to go easy. The rusty flatbed would scrape up the soft skin on her thighs.

The push-pull of his feelings when he was with her was what made this thing between them compelling. He was always in control, except when he was around her. He liked surrendering to his instinct to mark, to have to mate when they were together.

She sat on the back of her truck with her dress around her waist and her boobs almost up at mouth level. He couldn’t let an opportunity like that go to waste. He bent down and took her nipple between his teeth, gently abrading it until it got even harder and she whimpered. She laced her fingers into his hair and pulled it half-loose. Her fingernails dug into his skull; he loved that little bite of pain that let him know she wanted this just as much as he did.

“Harder.” Her voice sounded like it was a half moan, and he wasn’t about to deny this woman anything she asked for, especially if it was something he wanted to give her. He moved to the other nipple and lifted her up to pull her dress down over her ass. When he got it free of her legs, he threw it on the sparse grass.

As good as she looked, he hoped the dress got ruined. It symbolized everything that would take this woman away from him.

He drew back his head and stared at her. Her panties matched the white bra he’d discarded somewhere on the lawn. And–Christ almighty—she  had a garter belt attached to stockings. The kind with lace on top.

“Never wear these again unless you’re coming to see me.” He grabbed her upper thigh and ground out the words. “I’m going to fuck you in nothing but these damned stockings and the heels.”

USA Today Bestselling author Andie J. Christopher writes edgy, funny, sexy contemporary romance. She grew up in a family of voracious readers, and picked up her first Harlequin Romance novel at age twelve when she’d finished reading everything else in her grandmother’s house. It was love at first read. It wasn’t too long before she started writing her own stories — her first heroine drank Campari and wore a lot of Esprit.

Although, she set aside writing fiction for a while, her love of romance novels stayed with her through college, law school, and multiple cross-country moves. During one long East Coast winter, she decided writing a book would be a good excuse to avoid braving the elements. It was love at first write. Her heroes are dirty-talking alphas, and her heroines traded Esprit for Free People. (None of them would turn down a Campari, though.)

Review – A Promise Broken by Anissa Garcia

Review:

Every once in a blue moon, words fail me.  They are going to today, unfortunately. Because, there realistically aren’t enough words in the human language to adequately describe how much not just A Promise Broken, but how much the entire Promise Series,  utterly wrecked me (more about the series later….I promise).  A Promise Broken is the story of Hilary and Zach.  Don’t know who they are?  Well for goodness sake, get off your butt and BUY THE BOOK!!!  You definitely want to meet them.  Let me start by saying this is a series but you can read each book as a stand alone however in this case you don’t want to.  There is no way you want to miss out on any of this goodness!   Zach has been a part of Hilary’s family since he was a young boy, brought into the fold by Hilary’s mom when she discovered his heartbreaking living conditions.  Raised alongside the Matthews siblings, it’s safe to say that Zach’s feelings towards Hilary haven’t always been brotherly.  But, his overwhelming love and respect for the family has kept him firmly in check until that one night…..    Well, I will not mix words, I freaking ADORE Zach.  He is absolutely droolworthy but more than that, his work ethic is over-the-top sexy.  When he commits to anything, he goes full throttle and it makes him so amazing, there aren’t enough words to describe him.  He doesn’t say no to anything or anyone and unfortunately this has been the case with women too.  His frequent one-night-stands was the one thing about him I didn’t like, yet at the same time, it gave him a bad-boy edge that made him even more attractive, if it was even possible.  Enter Hilary.  Sweet, kind, uber-smart Hilary, who has lusted over Zach from afar and who, one night, pushes him over the edge.  Hilary is my kind of girl.  She takes no prisoners and goes after exactly what she wants and when she decides she is going to temporarily have Zach too….ummmm, hello!  Can you say “spontaneous panty combustion”?  Sure you can boys and girls!  If you can’t, practice those words because the chemistry between Zach and Hilary…that’s what it does.  Your panties spontaneously combust every single time they are in a room together.  It’s phenomenal.  I can’t even…GAH!!!!  Separately, I loved them but together they are a sexual nirvana with their banter and personalities an exercise in both patience and desperation!  I could not get enough.  They have their work cut out for them as their family and friends finding out about their relationship could destroy everything they have both worked so hard for.  This doesn’t stop them and when the truth of them comes to light…..I’m stopping now.  Seriously….not telling you any more.  And you don’t want me to.  You want to buy this book.  Because it has everything!  The plot was a beautifully written poem…it pulled your heartstrings and made you long for the love of your life.  There was love and sex…mind blowing and erotic sex that was tastefully written and not over done.  I adored the Matthews family and loved that I got to revisit all of them.  The ending was so wonderful, I hated that the book even had to end.  Really, it does not got much better than this!  Anissa Garcia is one of the most talented authors I have ever read.  She has the ability to suck you into her stories with a few sentences and not only do the stories take over your life, they rearrange your heart and soul.

As promised, I told you I would tell you about the rest of the series.  When I started this book, I didn’t even know who Anissa Garcia was.  I didn’t even realize there were other books in this series.  But, within a few paragraphs I was hooked and I started digging and discovered that there were others.  So, I put this book down (yep, down it went) and I started at the beginning!  OH MY GOSH!!!! I fell in love.  Each time!  With each couple!  I was so moved.  I binge read late into the night for a few days because I could not put these books down.  And as I finished each book and dove into the next, I fell harder and harder in love with the writing of Ms. Garcia.  I can honestly say that I have NEVER in my life read an entire series where I have rated every single book 5 stars.  Not once. Ever!  Until now.  The Promise Series is the first series every where I rated each book 5 stars.  EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

So, what was my rating for A Promise Broken?  5 Stars!  Would I recommend this book to anyone?  Yes…everyone who knows how to read and who loves romance.  Because it has everything….love, sex, anger, passion, hate, fighting, forgiveness, angst, family…and a love that will last for the rest of your life.

After a relationship gone bad, Hilary Matthews felt unsure about where she belonged or what to do with her life. Cue Zach Collins, a love ‘em and leave ‘em, no strings attached type of guy. The perfect distraction for her wounded heart. Just one problem. Zach isn’t some random stranger. Hilary is his fantasy come to life, his dream woman in the flesh…and his best friend’s little sister. Stepping over the line with her would not only ruin his friendship, but possibly alienate him from the only family he’s ever known.

I didn’t say anything. Instead my eyes roamed down his body as he approached. His jeans and shirt were perfectly snug. He sat beside me grabbing the remote, and I was hyper aware of his proximity. He smelled like fabric softener and aftershave. It was familiar and comfortable.

“Hilary,” his voice was soft as his eyes met mine. “Stop looking at me like that.”

“Like what?” I blinked at him with innocence.

“Like you want me to make love to you,” he said breathlessly.

My heart skipped a beat. I fumbled with my hands. “Don’t flatter yourself, Collins.” His phone trilled from his pocket. He reached in to check it, looked at the screen and hit the end button. “Who’s Isabella?”

He hesitated. “Uh, my chef.”

I rolled my eyes. “Bullshit. You know I can tell when you’re lying.”

“I’m not lying,” he laughed. “She’s my chef.”

“And your fuck buddy?” His eyes closed. Yup, he slept with her. His whole body tensed. “Do you like her?”

His eyes shot to mine. “No. I mean, yes, but…not in that way.”

The pang of possessiveness that swept through me was familiar to when Graham said he was working late, and that his co-worker was just that. “Is she pretty?” I asked quietly.

He nodded. “Very.”

“Oh.” Ouch, that stung more than I wish it had. I snapped out of my pity party and stood. “Well, then? Why aren’t you answering her call? You could be with her now.”

His bewilderment was obvious as I rushed to the window. It was hot and I needed a draft, and he was right. Drinking around each other wasn’t a good idea. He watched as I yanked on edges of the glass, trying to pry the window open.

“I told you I don’t care for her in that way.”

“So? You don’t have to care for her in that way in order to fuck. You did it already, didn’t you?” I struggled, but it wouldn’t budge. “Dammit, the window won’t open, and it’s so hot in here.”

“Only once,” he mumbled, as if reluctant.

“Spare me the details, Zachary.” I tugged, becoming breathless as I fought against it. My voice pitched higher as I hit the edges with my palms. “Stupid window.”

He drew up behind me, placing his hands over mine. I froze as his body pressed against me. We lingered, my back on his chest. Fast paced breaths escaped him. His mouth was near my ear, the humidity of his breathing caused me to tremble.

“Gently,” he spoke affectionately, drawing the window up. The crisp air didn’t make a difference when his warm body was near mine. His hands wrapped around my waist and he squeezed for only a second as his lips descended between my neck and shoulder. He gave the skin there a sweet kiss. His lips lingered longer than they should’ve. “You’re beautiful,” he whispered. His nose grazed over my neck as he pulled away. “Graham will regret letting you go for the rest of his life.”

Chills ran down my spine, all thoughts of Graham long vanished. My ringing body turned, needing more of Zach’s touch. His warm palms cupped my cheeks. I wanted more of him. All of him. He looked amazing tonight. I loved the way his emerald green eyes anchored on mine, promising me my darkest desires were a whisper away. His thick, dark hair swirled in waves I wanted to run my hands through. His strong touch had me reeling, and when he denied himself being a good man, instead of pushing me away, it only made feelings trickle in through the cracks of my heart.

He backed off, headed to the stairs, escaping me, leaving me in complete need. Bitterness toward my brother was creeping over me. Zach wouldn’t lose his friend, his boss. I was a risk he wasn’t willing to take. I had to remember what Zach said when he left me that day. Hilary, this can’t ever happen. I was sure he’d stick by what he said. He was a good man, after all, and a good man didn’t break his promises, but maybe, just maybe, some promises were meant to be broken.

He got it.

He finally got it.

He got why John Lennon left the Beatles for Yoko.

He got why Dred wrote a love song for Pixie.

From the moment Jordan’s lips touched Lexi’s, he couldn’t imagine anything else feeling and tasting quite so perfect for the rest of his life.

He ran his tongue along the seam of her lips and she groaned, opening for him. He thrust his hands further into her hair as their tongues touched. She tasted of wine and sweetness, and he couldn’t get enough.

While her eyes were closed, his were open, unwilling to miss a single moment of what was happening between them. He angled her head, and she rose up on her toes to meet him. He thought he was going to faint as the blood rushed from his brain to his cock, which ached for contact.

Lexi’s arms wound their way around his waist, her hands finding the way under his leather jacket and sweater to rest upon his back. Skin on skin. How he wanted them to be. Naked. Exposed. Nothing between them as he made love to her in a huge bed that they could stay in for days.

Except he didn’t have a huge bed. And he didn’t have the kind of room she deserved to stay in. He had an attic. And a box under his bed that held his most treasured possessions that nobody else would understand. A secondhand copy of Scales, Chords & Arpeggios, and the first birthday card he ever received from Maisey and Ellen. Random shit nobody else would care about.

Jordan pulled away slowly and looked carefully at Lexi. Her lips were pink and plump, her cheeks flushed, her eyes wide.

“Jordan,” she whispered.

“I gotta go. Bye, Lexi,” he said. He needed to get home and then drink enough to forget about her. Banish the stupid idea swirling around in his mind that they could have any kind of relationship. He should never have kissed her. It was hard enough to walk away before, but now that he had a clearer idea of what it was he was actually walking away from, it hurt all the more.

“Wait,” Lexi said as she grabbed his arm.

The small voice in his brain told him to keep walking, but he couldn’t. Instead, he turned to see what she wanted.

Lexi grabbed a pen from her purse, the one she had given him to sign the napkin in the restaurant. She reached for his hand and turned it over so his palm was facing up and quickly scribbled something on it. When she was done, she stood on her tiptoes again and kissed his cheek.

Weakness was a new sensation, but he felt it down to his boots as, against his better judgment, he leaned his cheek ever so slightly toward her lips.

“Good night, Jordan,” she said and bounced up the porch, grabbing her hat from the chair where Jordan had tossed it.

She paused in the doorway to wave good-bye and then closed the door silently shut.

Only when he was certain that she was definitely gone did he allow himself the luxury of seeing what she had written on his hand. It was a phone number. Despite himself, he felt a murmur of excitement that she found him worthy of a second date.

Jordan turned toward home. As snow began to fall again, he hurriedly made the short hike across the Don Valley river and ravine to his neighborhood, trying to halt the avalanche of emotions because of ten hand-scribed digits.
