ABOUT BISHOP’S QUEEN

“I can’t shake the feeling that somebody’s watching me.”

One second Ella Leighton’s life was normal—the next, not so much. A social media maven who made her living saving sea turtles, the decision to join a reality TV show was a good one for the cause. But for her… the adjustment wasn’t easy.

Her publicist used phrases like online personality. An overnight celebrity. Everyone explained that was why she couldn’t shake the feeling. But none of their excuses could explain the letters. The pictures. And then her stalker crossed the line, triggering the demand for security.

Bishop O’Kane didn’t expect to come face-to-face with his ex-girlfriend when Titan sent him on bodyguard duty. The woman he once loved, the same one he walked away from years ago, was now his responsibility. Opposites in every way, they couldn’t be more different, but maybe they had never needed each other more.

With the FBI falling short in their investigation, the Titan team must rally around the woman with millions of followers, protecting her from her own as Bishop and Ella forge a path of second chances and forgiveness, unburying the past in order to survive.

EXCERPT:

His inability to protect her tore at his insides. He carefully stepped closer, knowing that it was a danger zone— her in a towel and crying. She was his weakness, and he couldn’t handle her seemingly so vulnerable and hurt. “We’ll get it figured out.”

“No. We won’t. No one takes this seriously.” She covered her face. Bishop gathered her into his arms. Her skin was semi-damp and warm from the shower, and Ella smelled like soap. She leaned into his arms, dropping her hands, and clung to him as though no one had hugged her in ages.

“You’re getting worked up. It’s fine. Get some shut-eye. It’ll seem less overwhelming in the morning.” He kissed the top of her head, wishing he could dissolve her fear. If only there were a way to drop-kick away every bad memory, every fear. He wanted to just absorb her pain and, God, he wanted to keep her close.

Shit. He was in deep. The tighter she held onto him, the more he needed to make it right.

She burrowed against him, her wet hair dampening his shirt. “I don’t want to sleep.”

He stifled a groan. Now wasn’t the time to follow through on every urge. Never was actually the time. But with her rubbing and swaying against him, this was painful.

Theo took the stairs as quickly as he could. He knew where he was going, but he wasn’t going to think about it. For the first time since he’d gotten home, he didn’t care about his past or figuring out who he’d been. He wanted. He wanted something right now and that felt good.
She’d been right. There wasn’t a place for guilt here.
He strode up the stairs, her weight comforting in his arms. Yeah, he wasn’t going to think about that either. He was going to enjoy it, not wonder why his body remembered her when his mind would not.
“Hey, is everything okay?”
Damn it. Case was standing at the top of the stairs, obviously having come out of the privacy rooms. His wife was at his side, her face flushed. Mia had sex hair. Good for them. Red was about to have sex hair, too. Lots of filthy sex hair. “Everything’s great. Night.”
Case put a hand on his shoulder. “Whoa. I thought you were going to take this slow, brother.”
“If you don’t get your hand off him right this second, Taggart, I am going to ensure that you never have children,” Red said, her eyes narrowing on his brother. “You won’t be able to cock block anyone because you won’t have a damn cock. Am I clear?”
Case’s hands came up immediately as though he knew that tone and was not going there. “Trying to help.”
“Three is clean and has plenty of condoms. We’re taking a monitor turn up here. I checked all the rooms.” Mia grinned at him. She actually was helpful. “Have fun and we’ll see you at home.”
He didn’t bother to look back. Case could give him a lecture later. He wasn’t waiting anymore. He’d waited forever. Even when he couldn’t remember her face, he’d known she was there. He’d felt her, or rather he’d felt her absence.
Could he truly be with a woman whose name he couldn’t think without hurting her?
It didn’t matter. He wasn’t making those decisions tonight. He was enjoying her. His sub. He was bringing her pleasure and he probably should do a good job of it because his sub was fucking mean.
And fragile. He’d seen the moment she’d thought he was rejecting her. He’d watch her skin flush and her body start to turn in on itself. She was such a mix of strength and need. It was intoxicating. He wanted so badly to be the man who gave her what she needed.
Affection. Pleasure. Comfort.
Love—he wasn’t thinking that word tonight. Nope. Pleasure was way better.
He kicked out lightly at the partially open door number three. It looked like Mia had done her job. The room was perfectly clean, the lighting soft and romantic. The best thing about this room though was the complete lack of any of his friends or family being here.
It was him and her, and that was exactly what he wanted. No Ian. No Li. No Kai asking them hundreds of questions. Him and her and the night.
He tossed her on the bed and stood back, looking down at her. “Tell me why you thought I was rejecting you.”
The instant she hit the bed, she was up on her knees. So graceful. So deadly. What the hell was this woman like out in the field? She moved like a predator, but the look on her face was pure sarcasm. “Uhm, your words. That’s what sealed it for me. ‘I don’t want to do this’ is generally considered a rejection.”
Somehow she managed to put an unsaid “dumbass” on the end of her sentences. Not all of them. She’d been perfectly sweet most of the night, but she could turn it on when she wanted to. “I didn’t mean that. When I said the words, I watched you change. Why? You’re good at slapping people down. I wouldn’t have said that until today.”
“Because I’ve been careful around you,” she admitted.
“Why? You think I’m delicate?”
Her lips curled up. “I don’t think you’re delicate. I think I’m a lot to take, but I also am starting to believe I was wrong. You like me rough.”
“I like you a lot.” More than he could ever tell her.

Review – Don’t Say It by Debra Kayn

tour-titles-5

What Worked For Me:

I very much enjoyed Don’t Say It.  This is the second book in the Ronacks Motorcycle Club Series and while this book could be read without reading the first book, I still recommend it to get the most out of the reading experience.  This is the story of broody, quiet Swiss and his unexpected lady love Gia.  I really liked this couple, although I will admit to feeling a little perplexed about his feelings towards her.  Our hero likes his life simple and without complication or relationships.  He is very stoic and it was hard to get past his lack of emotion.  When he finally does admit to having feelings for Gia, he becomes an extremely sexy man.  There is nothing sexier than a man who knows what he wants and when he realizes that Gia is what he has been looking for his entire life, and that made me fall in love with him.  I like that, even when he wasn’t acknowledging the way she made him feel, he still protected her and tried to take care of her in his own way.  Gia is sweet and quirky.  Her feelings and emotions are on display from the beginning and that endeared her to me immediately.  I felt like there were no games being played by her.  She was scared and she latched on to the one person who made her feel safest.  She charmed me from the very beginning but even more so when puzzling out the mystery that is Swiss.  She doesn’t fear him and that makes her curious and very entertaining.  Together, this couple works as she balances him out and he brings her peace.  The book was gritty and raw and moved at a fairly brisk pace. There was an added plot twist to this story that I thought was amazing and well delivered and it was a surprise I didn’t even see coming.  Overall, Don’t Say It kept me engaged from the beginning until the very end.  This is a series that I like and I can’t wait to read the next book.

What Didn’t Work For Me:

Swiss was almost too detached for most of the book. He spent alot much time wanting the heroine out of his life and while this angst works, he felt this way for majority of the book so and when he finally admits he feels something more than just sex for the heroine, it felt off and rushed.  Also, this plot had great potential but there were a few holes that are still puzzling me.  I don’t want to give anything away but after reading this book I had unanswered questions and while this is no problem for many readers, I’m a reader who likes all my questions answered and tied up with a bow.  Overall, these two issues are minor as they didn’t take away from my enjoyment of a well written book.

Would I Recommend This Book:  Absolutely.  Especially if you like bad boys who hide their feelings behind gruff exteriors, motorcycle romances, gritty suspense, and second chances at love.

He continued gazing at you and after a few seconds where she believed she’d crumble in her chair at the hypnotic pull from across the table, he said, “You and your dress, and the way you’re blushing right this second, has me thinking I’m going to kiss you.”

She caught herself panting and closed her mouth.

“Not here.” He straightened and looked around the room and mumbled, “Later.”

“Later?” She ducked her chin. Oh God, she’d said that out loud.

He chuckled low. “Do you need a specific time?”

She looked through lowered lashes. “That might help because I can’t even think right now with you blurting out everything I’m thinking and looking at me that way and me being scared and not knowing what is going on with everything outside of us…and you. You scare me, Swiss.”

He ran his thumb and index finger down the outside lines of his goatee. “All you have to do is tell me no.”

“No,” she blurted. “I mean yes. I want you to kiss me.”

The corner of his mouth lifted. Gia sighed in impatience.

“I don’t know what I’m doing. You’re like nobody I’ve ever known.” She glanced around making sure they hadn’t grabbed anyone else’s attention. “I’m also feeling guilty.”

“About?”

She sagged in her chair. “I came here with the intent to use you for protection like some big warning sign to keep the bad men away and instead…”

“Instead, you want me,” he said, shrugging. “It is what it is, sweetheart.”

She burst out laughing and shut off her nervous amusement instantly, mortified that she’d forgotten about everyone else in the bar and nodded. “Yes, I guess that’s what I’m saying.”

Tour Titles 1

He was done. He could take caning across his bare back or bamboo under his fingernails, but he sure as hell didn’t stand a chance against this kind of torture. A man’s resolve was only so strong against a woman like Sam. Telling his subconscious to take a hike, he hitched her leg over his lap. She drew a quick breath, but then settled astride him as if her body was made to fit his. Her legs cradled his thighs, and the center of her heat married flawlessly over his growing erection.
Imagining what it would feel like to be buried deep inside her, he shifted to encourage more friction. Her body went rigid, her spine as straight as a damn board, then she relaxed and trailed her hands along every piece of his available skin. Up under his sleeve to his biceps, where she squeezed the muscles; across his chest and stomach; his back.
The impression of her touch lasted even after her hands moved on to their next location.
His shirt was off in seconds, and he was doing his damnedest to remove hers just as quickly. Would she be upset if he ripped it from her body? It was a mere scrap of fabric anyway.

Prologue

Gabriella
Leaning back against my chair, I closed my eyes. I was in desperate need of just a few moments to collect my thoughts. Josh’s smile filled my mind, and I knew I would spend my whole life missing it. I only hoped our child would be lucky enough to inherit his or her daddy’s smile.
The intercom interrupted my thoughts, and I sat up straight and tapped the Answer button. “Yes, Valerie?”
“Your ten o’clock is here,” she replied, and a surge of nervous energy filled my stomach.
“Great, please send him in,” I said before standing from my desk and walking around the side after taking a few seconds to smooth my skirt. The door opened, and I looked up at Valerie. Just over her shoulder was a tall man with dark hair.
I stepped forward and held out my hand in greeting. “Hello, my name is Gabriella Shannon.”
He smirked, and it sent chills along my neck and shoulders. He had the most piercing green eyes I had ever seen.
He entered the room and took my hand, then lifted it toward his lips. As he kissed it softly, his eyes remained locked on mine. “Very pleased to meet you, Gabriella.” His voice was rich and so smooth. “My name is Roman, but you can call me R.J. It is what my friends call me, and I have a feeling you and I will be great friends.”
“Well, R.J., it is always nice to make new friends. It should make this process easier.” I offered a forced smile, instantly regretting my choice to return. Maybe I wasn’t ready to be back. Being in the presence of an arrogant man generally gave me the urge to be just as arrogant. Except I’d lost my confidence. I think a part of me died the day Josh’s friends and partners in the FBI, Greyson and a man named Trevor, showed up at my apartment. I could instantly see the sadness in their eyes when they told me Josh had died. I could also see the dread in their eyes when they shared the news. They too had lost a man they loved.
I wanted proof, because I didn’t believe he was gone—it was too hard to imagine. I wanted to see for myself that he was no longer here, breathing and vibrant.
Cremated. It still pissed me off that those were Josh’s wishes.
I looked up to see R.J. eyeing me curiously, and I felt embarrassed for getting lost once again in my grief.
“Sorry, please forgive me. Today is my first day back after being gone for over two weeks.” I turned away quickly and attempted to gather my wits.
“Yes,” he said in that soothing voice of his. Something about it made me a little uneasy. “Margo did mention you lost someone close to you recently.”
I closed my eyes tightly and took a second to breathe in, then nodded as I turned and allowed my eyes to meet his. “Yes, I did. Someone that meant more than words could ever describe.”
“I’m deeply sorry for your loss. Times like these are never easy. If you need more time, I understand. We could meet again in a week or longer if needed,” he offered with a smile.
“No,” I said more abruptly than I had intended. “I’m sorry, it’s just that I need this. I need the push to get back to life. It’s not going to be any easier if I do this today, or if I wait until next week. I’ll still miss him then.” I paused, attempting to calm my emotions. “I know I’ll always miss him.” I rested my hand over my lower stomach as my lip quivered. I was sure the desk hid my movements, but when his gaze shifted downward and his eyes widened slightly, I realized he had seen my gesture.
With a light nod, he offered me a smile as he got more comfortable in his chair. “Okay, then, let’s find my new home.”
I was thankful he didn’t ask questions or attempt to keep me talking about the loss I was still hurting from. I needed a distraction, and apparently he noticed that too.

Series/Number: Hard Ink Bk 1

REVIEW:

What Worked For Me:

Oh WOW!  I just can’t believe I have had this gem sitting in my TBR pile for so long.  Hard As It Gets was unbelievable!  Where do I start?  Our Hero and Heroine….they are dynamite!  I absolutely love females characters who have their act together and still manage to remain sweet and Becca is flawless.  She is kind, generous, giving, firm, fair, and above all courageous!  She kicked butt up one side of a mountain and all the way back down without straining a muscle or breaking a sweat.  But the best part is she did that without having to lift a finger.  I can’t remember the last time I read a female character who could command every situation with grace and poise and so much kindness.  It was refreshing and humbling to read.  Nick, now that man…..I just sigh thinking about him.  All he has been through and all he is dealing with and falling in love so unexpectedly, thinking he didn’t even deserve it.  Yes, I could go on and on extolling his virtues but I won’t.  He is just breathtaking in everything he does but most importantly in his love for Becca.  He loves her as every man should love a woman.  He protects her and allows her to help fight her battles and be herself.  We won’t even talk about how he sounds so delicious, I could lick him up one side and down the other and then lick….yeah, you get the picture.  This book has an amazing storyline full of tension and suspense and just the right amount of hot bedroom action that is the perfect complement to the plot.  We quickly meet new characters who will make up the rest of the stories in this series and I for one am over the moon excited to know I have more books I can jump into immediately.  If you are looking for a stellar cast of characters, a meaty yet engaging storyline, and a smoldering hot love story, look no further than Hard As It Gets.  Ms. Kaye has truly, deeply done us a huge service for which we should be eternally grateful!  It is one of the best contemporary romantic suspense stories I have read in years!
