5 Star Review – Mixed Up by Emma Hart

REVIEW:

I am the first to admit, I normally like my male heroes to have what I consider “alpha” occupations…law enforcement, PI’s, soldiers, firemen, etc.  Well slap me with a frying pan because there is a new alpha in town and he is a CHEF!!!  And a pretty hot one, too.  This book was insanely intense.  I laughed so hard and felt so much heat, I thought I was the one in a burning hot kitchen.  From enemies to lovers, Parker and Raven are absolutely decadent.  I’ve never experience such intense foreplay in a book.  Parker is supremely dominant both in the kitchen and out of it and Raven is his perfect match, wild and crazy and brazen as all get out.  And her cocktails!!!  GAH!  I would just about die to try every single one of them.  From the beginning, I have to confess, I knew where this book was going to go.  But, that’s ok!!!  It was still a crazy and amazing journey.  I had never read a book by Ms. Hart before so this was delightful and fun.  The sex scenes were erotic and just about burned my kindle to ashes.  Seriously, this chemistry, is crazy INSANE!!!  But the way they work so well, it was sensual and teasing all the same.  The fight for supremacy was fierce but I enjoyed every second of the push and pull between them.  When you throw in her and Parker’s hilarious family antics, the shenanigans of Raven’s best friends, and the brooding kitchen help, you come up with some pretty key ingredients to a highly addictive book!  This plot was fun and fresh and kept me entertained from start to finish.  I enjoyed every second of this book and I think you will too!  I’m loading my TBR piles with more books by Ms. Hart.  I think she is an undiscovered gem I’ve been dying to find.  5 stars!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00022]Hiring my brother’s best friend was not on my to-do list.

Neither was he.

Expanding my dirty cocktail bar into food was supposed to be easy, except finding a chef in my little town of Whiskey Key is anything but.

Until Parker Hamilton comes home—bringing his Michelin starred chef’s hat with him.

He has no work. I need someone like him in my new kitchen.

There’s just one problem: I hate his cocky, filthy-mouthed, sexy-as-hell guts.

Even if I might want him. Just a little…

Working for my best friend’s sister? Not on my to-do list.

She’s another story.

Whiskey Key was supposed to be a relaxing vacation, except I haven’t reached the heights I have by lying in a hammock drinking cocktails. So when Raven Archer is desperate for a chef, I offer up my skills.

I’m bored. She needs what I can give her.

Except there’s a problem: I’ve always hated her.

Her and her big, blue eyes, sassy mouth, and killer curves.

If only I didn’t want her.

I knew I was making a mistake. After what Raven said last night at dinner, I had the strongest urge to find out what her cocktail menu was. With names like Dirty Screw and The Slutwhisperer, what other gems did she have hidden on there?
Shit, what gems were hidden inside her apparently filthy mind?
I had no place to be thinking that. She was Ryan’s sister and the bane of my goddamn existence. I didn’t give a shit what was inside her head or how she came up with a filthy cocktail menu.
I was going to believe that she’d spent stupid amounts of time on the Internet coming up with those kinds of names. Seeing her in that damn short dress yesterday had already affected me enough—not to mention the fact that she’d changed since I last saw her.
I didn’t know people could change so much in only three years, but Raven Archer had. She was no longer post-grad, trying to seriously figure out what she wanted to do with her life, uncertain and serving burgers to people to make money.
She was grown-up, in more ways than just her age. She was even hotter-headed that she was back then. She seemed stronger and more stubborn, and her tongue was so sharp I probably have scars from how quickly she cut me with her words.
She was taller and fucking curvier, too.
Her lips were fuller. Her eyes were brighter. And the general air that hung about her, that hint of sass and sexiness, the very same thing that made me insult her whenever I opened my mouth almost made me want her, too.
And that was exactly why I couldn’t sit and think about what went on in her mind—filthy or otherwise.
No matter what she looked like or how fucking hot she was, she was my best friend’s sister. Nobody was more off-limits than she was. That wasn’t a new development. It had always been that way.
Thank fucking god I was only here for the summer, and only because my mother had guilted me into it.
As soon as the summer was over, I’d go for my next challenge.
I could get through a few weeks of being in the same town or two as Raven—because after today, avoidance was at the top of my life.
Otherwise, I’d go fucking insane.
Dirty was right on the seafront, only meters away from a small, sandy bay. It’d only taken me a few minutes to walk here from where I’d parked downtown, and despite the music coming from inside the bar, I could still hear the gentle crashing of the waves as they crawled up the sand. The water was right out, and I stared out at the water as I headed up the hill to the bar.
Fairy lights twinkled along the underside of the roof that jutted out over the sidewalk. It was like a goddamn princess castle from the outside, but the beachy vibe was evident. Different sized and colored shells covered the pillars that held up the balcony that jutted out over the front doors.
I pushed open the door. Cold air blasted into me, and so did the heavy bass beat of the music that blared out from the speakers just above my head. There were more fairy lights inside, but they were strung all beneath the bar, across the beams on the ceiling, and over the back wall where the spirits were on the wall. There wasn’t much else in the way of lighting, but what there was was effective enough in holding the entire space into a balance between bright and dusky.
The inside of Raven’s bar was like being outside at the moment the sun set.
I cast my gaze over the rest of the bar. The solid, wood tables and stools that lines the walls and filled the space to my left all had tiny vases of fresh flowers in. Even those were surrounded by fairy lights.
Fucking hell, did she let a class of little girls in here to decorate?
No matter what I felt about the fairy lights, it looked good. Damn good.
I stepped up to the bar and leaned forward on it. Raven was at the other end of the bar, wearing jeans and a tight tank top that tucked beneath the waistband. Strappy, silver heels on her feet glinted off the under-bar lighting, and it was all too easy for me to drop my eyes there then slowly drag my gaze up the length of her entire body.
Light bounced off the chrome cocktail shaker in her hand as she shook it. She popped off the top with one slick of her thumb, and without spilling a drop, poured the pink-red liquid into two martini-style glasses. With her other hand, she reached back to the register and jabbed at it.
Seconds later, she was handing them back their change. It all happened in a flash.
How did such she go from lost to…this…so quick?
“Raven!” A dark-haired woman sitting a few stools away from me with her friend yelled. “There’s a hot guy staring at you!”
I laughed loudly as Raven jerked around. Her gaze landed on me with what felt like a snap, and I swore she mouthed, “Motherfucker,” before she stalked to this end of the bar.
Her hands slapped on the bar in front of me. “What are you doing here?”
“I told you I was coming to check out your menu.”
“He was checking out more than the menu,” the woman’s friend giggled.
Raven held her finger up to them, and with her other hand, slapped a smooth, laminated menu in front of me. “Did you drive?”
“No, I walked all the way from Key West.” I picked up the menu. “Of course I drove.”
“Pick one,” she said, moving away. “I’m not serving you anymore than that. Make it a good choice. What can I get for you?” she asked someone else, cutting me off before I could say a word.
I raised my eyebrows.
“She runs a tight ship,” the first woman said. “Three days ago, there was a guy in here spiking drinks. She caught him and bashed him in the balls with her cocktail shaker so he couldn’t run from the security guard.”
Could my eyebrows go up any higher? “That doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. I’ve seen her do worse.”
The second woman’s eyes narrowed. “You have? You know her?”
The first woman rolled her eyes. “Of course he does, Cam. When have you seen her react to a customer like that? He obviously pissed her off in a past life or something.”
“I should be so lucky.” I smirked. “More like all in this life.”
“Her brother’s friend, right?” She tilted her head to the side. “Yeah, she mentioned she hated you.”
She’d talked about me?
“She didn’t say you were hot, though,” the second woman said.
“Camille!”
Ahhh.
The best friends.
“What?” Camille said. “I’m just saying.”
“No more Slutwhisperers for you,” the other woman—the one I presumed to be Lani—said, reaching for her glass.
Camille leaned over and slurped the last of the drink through the straw.
That explained the name of the cocktail.
“What are you doing?” Raven asked, stopping in front of them. “Cam? Your glass is empty. Let me refill that for you.” She winked to the other girl as she turned around.
What was she doing?
She put her back to her friends and grabbed the tequila bottle. She tipped it over a cocktail shaker without actually pouring anything into it. My lips quirked up as she put together what was some pink juice or something and blended it with raspberries.
She poured the mixture into a glass with some vigor in front of Camille.
She’d made her a placebo.
“Made your choice?” Raven turned to me, holding onto the shaker.
“No.” I spun the menu to face her. “What do you think I should have?”
Completely straight-faced, she said, “The Blue Balls.”

5 Star Review – Tempting Justice by Fiona Archer

 REVIEW:

I am head-over-heels IN LOVE with this series!  I read the first book, Craving Justice, and I was immediately hooked!  How could I not be?  BOTH Craving Justice and Tempting Justice suck you into a new world full of Aussie badasses finding love.  It was awesome.  And while Craving Justice piqued my interest, I fell in love with Tempting Justice.  My mind, and body were blown away.  I felt like my world would never be the same after this book.  From the moment I’m introduced to the Justice Brothers, I melted but I just adored Heath!  He was so alpha and dominant at everything he did and exuded extreme caveman tendencies that made him utterly delicious.  When you couple all the awesome that he is…from his perfectly ordered life to his absolute control of everything, you understand immediately why he is drawn to London.  London is everything he is not….free-spirited, messy, klutzy, and awkwardly endearing.  I loved her.  From her sassy mouth to her bold and brazen behavior, London was a female lead worthy of our hero.   This book was instant love at it’s finest….although they don’t admit that immediately or realize it.  Better yet, it is believable.  Every second of their lives I can vividly imagine like a movie.  This is amplified when all the maddening chemistry they have explodes into some pretty erotic and mind-blowing sex.  This couple deals with some heavy, emotional, and gut-wrenching issues…I won’t give you the details because it’s better you experience them for yourself.  Yet somehow they come back to them.  They are perfect for each other.  Really…how an author can pack so much goodness in a book?  Pretty easily, it seems, because Ms. Archer pulls it off so well, I felt like I was IN THE BOOK!!!  That rarely happens.  This book had everything…well written characters complete with perfections and flaws, a very engaging and easy to understand plot, burning passion, intense suspense, witty banter, and a love that will last a lifetime.  And while the plot line from the first book carries over to the next, you can totally read this book alone and not feel like you are completely lost (although I wouldn’t recommend it….why shortchange your self when there is so much goodness to have).  More importantly, this whole series centers on one thing…the importance of family and all the many forms it takes.  If I could, I would fly to Ms. Archer’s home and crack a whip behind her to write the next book faster because I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us readers.  I highly recommend this book to anyone over the age of 18 who can read because it has everything you want in a book and will leave you fully satisfied yet craving your next fix as soon as you finish is.  5 stars…yes.  But honestly, not even that many stars justifies this books awesomeness!

***Sidenote….I know some readers prefer print books and sadly this one isn’t in print format yet.  I checked because I am totally buying this series for my keeper shelves.  Craving Justice is available in print and I will tell you, if you are able, buy both versions.  This series you want to have accessible at all times. ***

Heath had grabbed the flask from the SUV’s back seat when he glimpsed a figure through the rear window. A woman, wearing a blue hoodie and black sweatpants walked to the edge of Derek’s driveway and gazed at the house’s front door. A few seconds later, she began walking swiftly down the driveway, constantly checking the front door. Was she worried about being seen? A possible intruder?

Since he’d parked closer to the house further on from Derek’s parents’ property, the woman hadn’t spotted him. Heath replaced the flask on the backseat and gently pushed the back passenger door nearly closed. He waited until she had disappeared behind the side of the house before following.

Careful not to make noise, he followed the woman down the driveway and watched as she stopped in front of a side door to the garage, which was separate from the house. With her back to Heath, she pulled something from her pocket and tried to jimmy the door’s lock.

The woman glanced toward the back of the house, likely checking to see if she’d been spotted, then continued her efforts with the lock. A soft hiss and a “dammit” indicated her efforts were unsuccessful.

Heath also couldn’t miss the curvy shape of her figure outlined so well by the soft black material hugging her gorgeous arse. One shown off to perfection as she bent to look closer at the lock.

A tiny squeak of joy, followed by her opening the door, signaled the possible intruder had crossed a line. It seemed such a shame to stop his fun. Nevertheless, duty called…

Heath pulled out his 9mm from his shoulder holster and held it out in front of him as he moved forward. “Police! Put your hands on your head and step away from the door.”

The woman let out a high squeak, dropped the lock pick, and spun around, eyes wide. Her mouth formed an “O” at the sight of his weapon. “Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness.” She covered her mouth with both hands before waving them in front of her, palms facing Heath. “It’s not what you think. Honestly.” Her gaze snapped to her left in the direction of the back of the house as if she expected someone to come out any moment.

“I said, hands on your head.” Heath commanded, satisfied when the woman immediately obeyed. “Come forward, turn around, and face the garage door.” He saw her close her eyes in defeat before she obeyed. Heath grabbed his cuffs and shoved his weapon back in the holster. With efficient moves, he had her wrists secured behind her.

“Officer, I can explain.” She sighed. “I mean, I know everyone says that, but really, nothing illegal’s happening here.”

“Good to know.” He pulled her jacket’s hood from her head. Red hair. No, the description didn’t do the color justice, but he only knew guyspeak, which would have to suffice to explain the bursts of deeper red in amongst the lighter strands, all held in a ponytail.

Heath patted down his suspect. No weapons. And he’d have to be dead not to notice the way his hands fit over her hips, the roundness of her arse. He wasn’t a sleaze, not by any means, but he appreciated a woman’s body like any man.

Taking her arm in a firm grip, he turned his suspect around.

Green eyes framed with long, thick lashes blinked up at him. “When I say nothing illegal, I mean it depends on your point of view.”

“My point of view is as a cop, which doesn’t leave a lot of leeway on a range of subjects.”

She frowned at him, as if he was being unreasonable. “That’s a rather rigid stance. Not everything is black and white.”

Heath wasn’t prepared to debate the point. “Your disappointment is noted. Now—”

“Hey, I’m sure you’re a busy guy. And, uh,”—she licked her lips—“you need to go protect the community. That’s an important role. Absolutely. So, you know—” She broke off. “Shoo. Anyway, we can put a line under this and start the day over.”

Despite her opinion of his so-called inflexible outlook on life, he couldn’t help answering. “We can, huh?”

“Totally.” She nodded, sending her ponytail bobbing.

Keeping hold of her arm, Heath looked down at her black canvas tennis shoes to hide his mouth twitching.

It was a safe bet the young woman wasn’t a hardened criminal. But whatever the hell she was up to, he aimed to find out. First he needed to phone Derek.

“Do you know the owners of this house?”

Her mouth dropped open, and her eyes grew huge in her face. “You don’t have to get them,” she rushed out.

“Oh, but I do.” He went to pull out his phone from his back pocket, and the woman jerked against his grip. She would have toppled over if not for him keeping his hold.

Oh, no, sweetheart.

He tightened his grip, reinforcing her captivity and moved closer, towering over her. “Lady, you could have hurt yourself.” The safety of suspects was important, and the thought of the little redhead causing herself harm propelled his alpha instincts center stage. “Resist once more, and I’ll use my belt to hogtie you.”

She drew in a sharp breath. What he didn’t see was fear. Not in her eyes or the way a blush stained the cool-toned white skin of her face. And swear to God, he felt her body soften against him.

An image of her hogtied flashed through his mind. Only she wouldn’t be in this driveway, but in his bed. Lying on his sheets. Her glorious long red hair spread over his pillow.

“What the hell’s going on?”

Heath looked over his shoulder. Derek stood at the side of the house, his hands jammed on his hips.

Dammit,” came from his suspect.

A look best described as misery—from the closed eyes and turned down mouth—covered her face.

“I caught a suspect attempting to break into your parents’ garage.”

Derek gave a dry laugh. “I’ve no doubt she’s up to something, but that’s no suspect.” He strode up the driveway, his frown reserved for the woman at Heath’s side. “Meet London, my baby sister.”

Heath swung his gaze to…Derek’s sister?

Those eyes, so wide and shocked before, were now narrowed with the promise of rebellion, even as she stood there—in his cuffs.

Ah. So bravado was her chosen defense.

Heath remembered the sweet color of her blush at his earlier threat of hogtying her.

Lightning might strike him down any second, but the woman intrigued him, even knowing she was Derek’s sister. The knowledge he didn’t have to call for a cruiser to take her to booking added a new dimension to the proceedings. Anticipation flowed through Heath. He was going to enjoy this visit, and for way more than pancakes.

Time for his prisoner to confess all.

Excerpt –

“Almost done,” I said, going to the sink and wetting a clean washcloth.

“No hurry.”

When I returned, his eyes were open. I avoided them at first, gently wiping down his face and neck to remove any loose hairs. God, he looked like a totally different man. Cleaned up, he took my breath away. I had the sudden, unexpected urge to climb up on his lap and straddle him. The thought made my cheeks burn, but didn’t stop me from raising my curious gaze to his. He was watching me closely, and I noticed the look of hunger in his expression. I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like if he were to let his control slip.

Without warning, he raised his hand. I held my breath, totally mesmerized as his fingers began to gently trace over my cheek, down to the corner of my mouth, and then over my lips. “I’m not going to hurt you, Daisy Mae Flowers.”

I sucked in a breath, unsure of how to respond at first. I pushed Paul to the back of my mind. Not all men were like him. Big and scary didn’t always lead to pain. “Good to know. . .”

“Big John,” he said, guessing at the cause of my hesitation.  He seemed fascinated with my mouth, because his gaze remained there. “Say it,” he ordered firmly.

I wet my lips to comply. “Big John.” I knew that was probably his road name, and why wasn’t I pulling away from him? Why was I allowing him to touch me so intimately?

“Yeah, baby,” he said in a low, snarl-like tone. “I like my name on your lips.” He looked deep into my eyes, as if searching for something. “Are you afraid of me, or what’s happening here?”

So, he did feel it too! I was almost relieved, because I’d thought I was losing my freaking mind. I opened my mouth before realizing that I couldn’t acknowledge it, though. I didn’t want to encourage him into thinking that anything was going to happen between us, that we would be acting on the intense, outrageous attraction we felt.

“Nothing is happening,” I said, unable to bring myself to say, ‘between us’. The lie would undoubtedly stick in my throat. I’d been about to back it up by stepping out of his reach, but when I made a move, his hand was suddenly cupping the back of my neck and pulling me toward him. I automatically brought my hands up against his chest and leaned back against his strong hand. “No−” My heart jumped out of rhythm. I was suddenly terrified.

“I have to, baby.” His tone was a low rumble through his chest that sent a shiver of desire down my back. “Just one little kiss, Daisy Mae Flowers.”

Nooooo! But then I was saying yesssss when the smooth taste of his mouth covered mine and I was lost. It immediately turned rough and needy. Big John ground his mouth over mine until I parted my lips and let him inside. Then we were both sounding out our pleasure as our mouths went on the attack in a clash of teeth, tongue, and lips. The taste of him, the passion behind his kiss, overwhelmed my senses, yet I still wanted more.

Pushing against his chest was like trying to move a brick wall. I could feel his defined muscles flex beneath my palms, could feel the vibration of the animal-like sound that was climbing up his torso. I curled my nails into him, the impulsive action seeming to set him off. The next thing I knew, Big John was twisting a hand into my hair and pulling me onto his lap. The chair wasn’t conducive for what he obviously had in mind, and his frustration made itself known.

“Fuck,” he groaned, breathing heavily against my panting mouth. “I forgot where we were.” The hand in my hair loosened slightly, massaging now instead of yanking. His other hand had moved to my ass, squeezing and rubbing one cheek.

5 Star Review – The House Mate by Kendall Ryan

Review:

I absolutely ADORED this book!  Seriously, this series is outstanding, like keeper shelf worthy, but Max….SIGH!  He was alpha male and totally hot and…the sweetest daddy ever!  From the moment his daughter is dropped onto his doorstep, I was hooked.  There is nothing more sexy than a man taking care of his baby and Max has his act so together, witnessing him taking to his daughter so easily was pure beauty.  But, every bad ass needs his sex kitten and Max finds his in Addison, the nanny he hires to help him take care of his princess.  She’s fierce and sassy, but sweet and kind, the perfect type of woman to take care of Max’s daughter.  I loved Addison.  She was fresh and fun and was a natural born mother.  I loved how instantly she bonded with the baby.  But, even better, was Max’s instant attraction to her.  I have to admit, these two put up a good fight but their chemistry was too hot and bright to be ignored.  The sex scenes were both erotic and sensual.  And when they both realized there was something more to them than just daddy and nanny……it is even more amazing.  Apart these two characters can stand on their own but together, there is no stopping them.  Of course, when a baby is dropped on your doorstep, you know the journey isn’t going to be easy or without drama but the author has a magical way of weaving a story that neither bores you or annoys you with too much angst.  Perfectly told, this story was a work of art.  The secondary characters are fun and add just the right amount of pizzazz to the story.  Mind you, I just about crawled into this book and strangled Max’s secretary.  What a wench.  And the baby’s mom…yep, not gonna touch that with a ten foot pole because I’d whack her with it.  The plot was both entertaining and engaging with just the right amount of drama to keep you entrenched in the story.  I can not wait for the next book in this series.  If there is ever an author that deserves a place on your keeper shelves…or a series worthy of buying in print, this series and this author are definitely golden.  5 Stars!

house mate_amazonWhat’s sexier than a bad boy? A bad ass man who’s got his shit together.

Max Alexander is nearing thirty-five. He’s built a successful company, and he’s conquered the professional world, but he’s never been lucky in love. Focusing so much time on his business and raising his daughter, adulting has come at the expense of his personal life.

His social skills are shit, his patience is shot, and at times, his temper runs hot.

The last thing he has time for is the recently single, too gorgeous for her own good young woman he hires to take care of his little girl. She’s a distraction he doesn’t need, and besides, there’s no way she’d be interested. But you know what they say about assumptions?

This is book 3 in the Roommates series, but each book can be read as a complete standalone as they all feature new couples to fall in love with.

ABOUT EASY MAGIC:

The Boudreaux Series. Sexy. Intriguing. Easy.

Family. Responsibility. Stability.

As the co-CEO of Bayou Enterprises, and the eldest of the Boudreaux clan, Beau is the epitome of these. Now that his baby sister Gabby is happily settled down, Beau has moved into the company loft in the heart of the French Quarter to be closer to his office while his own home is built. He doesn’t have time for anything but the family he adores and the company that drives him.

If only the bewitching owner of the herb shop downstairs from Beau’s loft wasn’t so damn tempting.

Mallory Adams is living the life. The good life. The best life for her. After years of hiding who she is, and the gifts she’s been cursed with, Mallory opened her little shop in the French Quarter, offering herbs and lotions for anything from soothing a sunburn to chasing those pesky ghosts New Orleans is known for out of a client’s home. Some call her eccentric, and some say she’s simply odd, and that’s okay with her. She is a bit odd, but in her experience, all of the best people are.

When an old pipe bursts in the loft above her store, flooding her storeroom, Mallory comes face to face with Beau Boudreaux, and she doesn’t need the clairvoyant abilities that have been passed down through generations to know that she’ll never be the same. Beau is her exact opposite; serious, straitlaced. He wears suits for Pete’s sake and probably wouldn’t know the difference between arnica and flaxseed if his life depended on it. But when he touches her, the electricity is through the roof and she’s smart enough to know that a chemistry like theirs doesn’t happen every day.

Can two people so very different possibly find their way to happily ever after?

EXCERPT:

“I’ve always had a knack for knowing what people need,” she says softly, as if she’s choosing her words very carefully. I don’t know why that bothers me. I want her to speak her mind, to not have to censor what she says.

But this is a good start.

“In what way?”

“Maybe someone has headaches, or their feet hurt. I have essential oils and herbs that can help with those things.”

I nod.

“My grandmother taught me all about alternative medicine from the time I was a child. She wasn’t crazy with it,” she says quickly, “she still believed in western medicine as well, but why take a pain reliever full of chemicals if you can just put a drop of oil on the back of your neck to get the same result?”

She shrugs and reaches for the dessert, smiles when she opens the box, and digs in with enthusiasm.

“I thought it would be fun to open a store full of those things,” she continues. “I wanted the bottles to be pretty, and everything to be tied with a bow. I wanted a place where people enjoyed coming in, even if only to browse. It smells good, the energy is calming.”

And I realize that that’s exactly how I feel whenever I’ve been in her store.

“I’d say you’ve accomplished those things.”

“Thank you.” Her smile is huge and genuine. “That’s really the best compliment I could ever get.”

“Really?” I cock a brow and watch her lashes flutter. “I’d also say you’re stunning. I want to bury my fingers in that amazing curly hair of yours.”

There must be something in the food that’s making me speak so freely. But Mallory seems to bring out my flirty side.

I’d forgotten that I had a flirty side.

Her smile slips just a bit, and her cheeks flush, and I know she’d look just like that when I’m buried balls deep inside her.

“That’s very nice of you.”

“But not what you want to hear.”

“Well, don’t get me wrong, every woman wants to be told she’s pretty.”

“I didn’t say pretty,” I reply and lean in, resting my elbows on her desk. “’Pretty’ is too dull of a word to describe you.”

“You’re an interesting man,” she says, tilting her head to the side and studying my face with narrowed violet eyes. “You just say whatever you’re feeling.”

“Not always,” I reach out to tuck her hair behind her ear and she stiffens. I pause, keeping my eyes pinned to hers before I slowly brush just the pads of my fingertips over the outline of her ear, tucking that soft curly hair, then lowering my hand back to the desk. “But I see no reason to not be honest with you.”

“I opened this shop because I love it,” she says, her voice still soft but firm. She’s not weak in any way, and that pulls at me like a siren’s song. “I want to help people if I can, even if it’s just to moisturize their hands. And I like this building.”

“There are other streets with more foot traffic.”

“And I like where I am,” she says again. “I do well here.”

“I’m glad you do.” I nod and without giving it much thought, reach out to pull my fingertips over her hand. My eyes are watching hers as I do, and I can see the hesitation just before I touch her, and then the relief when my skin rests on hers.

She doesn’t like to be touched.

“Tell me more,” I say softly.

“That’s all there is about the store.”

“Tell me about you.”

She pulls her hand out from under mine and sits back in her chair. “I think you’d better go, before I tell you more than I want to.”

I cock a brow. “I’m a fan of honesty.”

“Good.” She nods once and begins loading the empty boxes in the trash. “I’m in favor of being honest, and in that same spirit, I’m exhausted, Beau.”

“I know. I am, too.”

But I’m not ready to say goodbye to her yet. I’m afraid that we’ll go our separate ways, and I won’t see her again.

“What are you thinking?” she asks.

“That I want to see you again.”

“You live upstairs from my shop,” she reminds me. “I don’t see how we could avoid it.”

“We avoided it for a damn long time,” I say and stand, shoving my hands in my pockets. “But I won’t make that mistake again.”
