Review – Ride Dirty by Laura Kaye

REVIEW:

I really enjoyed the love story of Caine and Emma.  You can’t deny that they are so different but click in such a beautiful and powerful way that it was impossible not to fall in love with them both.  Caine…mostly silent, always brooding, and with what appears to be insurmountable walls finds himself feeling things for Emma that he never imagined he would feel…and this shocks him to his core.  His life has not been easy and he feels so deeply that I spent most of my time reading this book both being heartbroken for him and wanting to climb in the book and heal him myself.  He is alpha and strong and doesn’t think he’s worthy of Emma but all this makes him sexy and addictive….not to just me as a reader but to Emma.  Emma herself hasn’t had the easiest life but she has such an upbeat personality and it was impossible not to adore her.  I loved her openness and honesty and most of all her very compassionate and giving spirit.  These two were perfect for one another in their imperfections.  The battle was not easy for Emma, trying to convince Caine he was worthy of love, life, and all the good things the world had to offer him.  The sex was erotic but intensely emotional.  The twists and turns kept me engaged in this plot from the very beginning and I admit to both crying tears of extreme sadness then overwhelming happiness for this couple who deserved the best of everything they found with each other.  There was a little bit of angst, but nothing over the top, and a bit of a suspenseful plot that offered a wonderful level of intrigue without inundating me with too many details or a complicated web I had to untangle.   I loved this story for the depth of feeling it inspired and was profoundly sad when it ended….but the ending was so amazing, it didn’t matter that I just wanted more.  Overall, this was a story that moved me, wrecked me, and rebuilt me and I treasured every second of Emma and Caine’s path to happily-ever-after.  5 stars!

Review – Rough Ride by Kristen Ashley

REVIEW:

I have been chomping at the bit to read Rosalie and Snapper’s story and when I finally got it in my hands, life around me stopped until I could take in each and every word!  I LOVED this story.  Rosalie is so brave and fierce and that she tries to save her boyfriend but is brutalized the way she was…my heart broke.  I literally sobbed for the first few chapters.  But Snapper….now, he is absolutely, 100% the man for her and the way he puts her back together was beautiful.  Snapper was completely devoted to Rosalie and unbeknownst to everyone around him, she has always been the woman for him.  I was on the fence initially when I heard Ms. Ashley was writing this story because of Rosalie’s history with Shy but this book made me feel so many things and I was amazed at how easily Rosalie put the past behind her and how integrated she became into the Chaos family.  The chemistry was phenomenal between Snapper and Rosalie so be prepared to change your panties!  But their love was even more beautiful and real.  I was tickled to death reading all the scenes which featured Rosalie’s mom….she is quite the character and the relationship she has with Rosalie is pure beauty!  This book was darker, in my opinion, than any of the other books in this series and I foresee quite a bit more angst than usual in the books that follow Rough Ride but I am waiting with bated breath because, in all honesty, Kristen Ashley is the queen of human emotion and no one can write an epic love story any better than her.  The plot was flawless, the characters perfect in all of their imperfections, and the bad guys….yeah, they are really bad.  I have to say, I was in awe at the relationship Tabby and Rosalie developed and it is what real sisterhood is all about!  Overall, I enjoyed every single word of this story and with the way Rough Ride ended…I’m not sure my heart will be able to handle the next book in this series.  However, I don’t care….because I simply can’t get enough of the Chaos men and the way in which they love their women!  5 stars!

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Ashley comes a new story in her Chaos series…

About ROUGH RIDE:

Rosalie Holloway put it all on the line for the Chaos Motorcycle Club.

Informing to Chaos on their rival club—her man’s club, Bounty—Rosalie knows the stakes. And she pays them when her man, who she was hoping to scare straight, finds out she’s betrayed him and he delivers her to his brothers to mete out their form of justice.

But really, Rosie has long been denying that, as she drifted away from her Bounty, she’s been falling in love with Everett “Snapper” Kavanagh, a Chaos brother. Snap is the biker-boy-next door with the snowy blue eyes, quiet confidence and sweet disposition who was supposed to keep her safe…and fell down on that job.

For Snapper, it’s always been Rosalie, from the first time he saw her at the Chaos Compound. He’s just been waiting for a clear shot. But he didn’t want to get it after his Rosie was left bleeding, beat down and broken by Bounty on a cement warehouse floor.

With Rosalie a casualty of an ongoing war, Snapper has to guide her to trust him, take a shot with him, build a them…

And fold his woman firmly in the family that is Chaos.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

About Kristen Ashley:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Title: Outlaw Ride

Author: Sarah Hawthorne

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Outlaw Ride:

A recovering gambler

Hard-living biker Clint Remmick is fiercely loyal to the boys of the Demon Horde motorcycle club. He’s worked hard to redeem himself, and there’s no risk he won’t take to help his brothers, even when rivals threaten their safety. When his grandmother’s health takes a turn for the worse, though, he moves out of the clubhouse to take care of her. With his duties for the MC, he knows he can’t do it alone, so he hires Jo, a live-in nurse.

He didn’t expect her to heal him, as well.

A dedicated nurse

Jo Smith enjoys working for sweet old Anne Remmick, and she’s especially intrigued by her tattooed bad-boy grandson. Clint’s tough exterior scares her a little, but she feels a pull toward the sexy biker. Soon she’s dying to close the distance between them.

A losing bet

When Clint and his brothers have to pull a dangerous job in Reno, Jo is the perfect cover. With enemies around every corner, Clint needs to focus on keeping her safe—not the lust simmering between them. But when Clint is trapped by a rival club, Jo will have to save him…and their relationship.

“What’s going to go bad?” I rinsed the soapy pan.

“I can’t tell you,” he said. Clint put his index finger on my shoulder and ran it down my arm. Tingles began to fire all over my body, and I shivered. Was this some sort of seduction? If it was, would I allow myself to fall into his trap?

Yes.

“Oh.” I couldn’t think of anything else to say. His finger was running back up the length of my arm now. “Is this the first time you’ve ever had to do something like this?”

“No,” he whispered against the back of my neck. He was standing behind me now, and I could feel his body heat. “I’m just more scared this time around.”

He was scared? I tried to catch his gaze in the window behind the sink, but he ducked his head behind me. He placed both hands on my lower back and began to knead. This was bad, so bad. I wanted him too much and he was confessing his fears to me. Just like you would do if you loved someone.

“Tell me what you’re afraid of.” I whispered, leaning back against him. He felt dangerously good.

“I’m afraid of not coming home,” he murmured. He slid his hands over my belly and pressed me against him. Through my thin cotton panties, I could feel him, hard inside his jeans. I started to grind against him. “I’m afraid of not seeing you again.”

“You don’t see me now,” I whispered. I meant for it to come out as a bitter condemnation, but his hands slid up over my breasts and I could barely breathe.

He took one of my nipples between his fingers and pinched it. I gasped.

“I need you, Jo,” he growled. I tried to turn, but he held me in place. “I know I don’t deserve it.” His voice was rough, as though he dragged it across gravel. His other hand slid down, between my legs. “Come to bed with me. Just this, tonight.”

I was already wet. I wanted him, he knew I wanted him. There was no point in denying it. But he was so raw, I had to find some way to distance myself and try not to fall in love with him. If I went back to his bedroom, the intimacy would doom me.

“Here,” I demanded, rubbing my ass against his dick. “Here in the kitchen. Do you have a condom?”

“Yes, but I want to taste you first.” He began sliding my cotton panties down my legs. “Why don’t you sit up on the counter?”

“No.” I squeezed my eyes shut, picturing it. It had been one of our favorite things. Clint’s face would be buried in me and he’d look up. We’d share my orgasm together. Just like our last time together.

My breath started to come in short bursts. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t let him be that close.

“No, from behind. Right now.”

He froze. I knew he was hurting and this wasn’t exactly what he wanted. He wanted that connection, those emotions that we used to share, but I couldn’t leave myself open to his hurt again. I waited for him to tell me no. Would he choose all or nothing? Or just take what I was offering?

Chapter One
Rory
Three Years Earlier

“AURORA? HONEY, IS THAT YOU?”

I paused outside my mother’s bedroom, frozen as I fought internally with
whether or not to go in. My mom had been bedridden for the last three weeks.
When I saw her the day before, she had looked even more fragile than the day
before that. She was getting sicker by the day—by the damn hour—and it hurt to
see her that way.
She had only been diagnosed with gastric lymphoma two months ago, but the
doctors said there was nothing they could do. It had been left too long, and it
had already spread. If she was lucky, she would have six months. At least, that
was what they had said four weeks ago. But that was before Sabrina Michaels
hadn’t been able to get out of bed. It was before she had started vomiting
blood at the end of every day. It was before she had given up.
Now, hospice came in once a day, to make sure she was comfortable, and to make
sure the new live-in nurse my father had hired knew what to do in case something
happened.
Because it could happen any day now. There was no way to determine just how
long my mother had, and it was breaking my heart.
Slowly, I opened the door to the bedroom that had been my mother’s sanctuary
for years, her own little slice of heaven that only a few people in the
universe were allowed to share with her. I was one of the lucky few, but that
privilege didn’t extend to my father. They had kept separate rooms since before
I was a teenager.
My gaze went straight to the hospital bed that was only one of many new
additions to the décor of the room. There was a heart monitor on a rolling cart
beside the bed, along with an IV stand, pushing fluids and blood into Mom. She
had a feeding tube in now because eating just wasn’t possible these days.
Timidly, I approached the bed, and my mother gave me a weak smile as she lifted
a thin hand.
“How was your date last night, my love?”
My own smile was shaky, but I forced it to stay in place as I sat on the edge
of the hospital bed that practically swallowed up the tiny woman. “Matt took me
out to this old field, and we watched stars for a few hours.”
It wasn’t a complete lie. We had gone to an old field, and he had spread out a
thick blanket. He’d held me close while shooting stars had fallen across the
sky, but my eyes hadn’t been on them. They had been wet and swollen as I had
cried out my grief for my mother against his chest.
He hadn’t said a word the entire time. Just rubbed his fingers up and down my
back and let me cry it all out because he knew how much my mom meant to me. He
knew how much I was going to lose when she took her last breath. Sabrina wasn’t
just my mom. She was my best friend, and when she passed away, it would be just
my father and me.
A man who would try to control every aspect of my life. But Mom had stood in
his way for years now, ensuring that I had my own life, that I could be free
from him and his manipulations. Once she was gone, though, that would change.
We all knew that.
“He sounds like a good boy,” my mother murmured now, but I heard the underlying
question.
“He is a good boy,” I assured her with a slightly stronger smile this time. But
this time, I was telling her a full-blown lie.
Matt Reid wasn’t a boy; he was a man. His twenty-one to my seventeen could cause
some serious trouble if we weren’t careful. And being a part of the Angel’s
Halo MC probably didn’t make him a “good boy,” not when both my father and
Creswell Springs’ DA were constantly trying to arrest someone from the
motorcycle club. I wasn’t stupid; I knew Matt probably did illegal things when
he was off on “runs” that took him away from me for days at a time.
The truth was, I didn’t care what he was doing for the MC when he left. All I
cared about was that he stayed loyal to me, that he only ever loved me, and
that it was my mouth he kissed like he couldn’t get enough of my taste when he
got home. That was all that mattered to me. I could live with the rest.
“We haven’t had sex yet,” I assured her when she continued to just look up at
me with that question in her eyes. “We want to wait until the time is
right.”
Which could have been any day in the three months since I had met him. Lord
knew I would have willingly handed over my virginity to him the first time I
had seen him at Hannigans’ the night I’d gone in on a dare. But like everyone
else in Creswell Springs, he had known exactly who I was. Which meant he knew
just how old I was, and while some of the brothers in his club were into
jailbait, he wasn’t one of them.
But he was just as addicted to me as I was to him, and instead of telling me to
fuck off, he had asked to see me again. He called me every day, texted me all
the time, and we saw each other as much as possible without my father finding
out. Because if Derrick Michaels ever figured out that his only child was
dating one of the MC members, he would lose his mind—and then arrest
Matt.
“Tell me what else you’ve been up to,” Mom urged as she shifted uncomfortably,
repositioning herself until she could find a small semblance of relief.
I reached for the IV stand and picked up the little button that would
automatically dispense the powerful narcotics that would ease her pain.
“No, darling. Don’t do that just yet. I lose track of time when I use those
damned meds. They confuse me, and I want to focus on you right now.”
Hating that she was in pain, but wanting to give her what she asked for, I
replaced the button and sat back, filling her in on everything that had
happened since I had seen her the evening before. There wasn’t much to tell her,
so I told her more about my date with Matt.
“He keeps talking about the future, as if he wants me to be a part of his life
forever.”
Mom’s green eyes, which had once been the same shade as mine, were now dimmed
with the yellowing of the whites from jaundice and the pain she was in
constantly. But they brightened just a little when I told her about Matt. “He
really does sound like a good boy, Aurora.”
“I love him, Mom,” I confessed. It was the first time I had said it out loud to
anyone other than Matt, but it felt good to tell her.
“It makes me feel better that you will have someone who will be here for you
when I’m gone,” she murmured weakly, leaning her head back and closing her
eyes.
Tears instantly pricked my eyes, but I held them back like a levee holding back
the sea. “Don’t talk like that, Mom. We still have plenty of time
together.”
We both knew I was only lying to myself, and when she opened her pain-filled
eyes, the look in them told me that. “It won’t be long now, my baby. I can feel
myself fading a little more every hour.”
“Mom, no,” I whispered brokenly.
“Yes, sweetheart. But I want you to know that I love you. You were the best
thing to ever happen to me. You are my greatest joy and my greatest sorrow.”
Two fat tears fell from her eyes, but she didn’t seem to have the strength to
lift her hands and wipe them away.
Reaching for a tissue, I mopped away the tears and tightened the hold on my
own. “I love you too, Mom. You are my best friend. You’re my favorite person in
the world, and I don’t want to lose you.”
“You won’t,” she whispered. “I will always be here for you. I will always take
care of you and watch over you.” Her icy fingers wrapped around my wrist and
tightened so hard I knew she was using the last of her energy to do it. “When
you turn twenty-one, you won’t ever have to worry about anything. I’ve made
sure of that. Just try to put up with your father until then, Aurora. After
your twenty-first birthday, you can walk away from him and never look back, I
promise.”
“I don’t want anything but you!” I whispered as the first tear broke the
barrier and spilled free. “I would give up everything if I could keep you,
Mommy.”
Weak hands pulled my head down onto her chest, and my tears flooded over my
lashes, soaking into her silky nightgown. “Shh, my baby. It will be okay. I
promise. You’ll be just fine.”

Excerpt:

I grabbed Ginger by the hand and pulled her out of the room, down the hall and to the bathroom. Her resistance was futile, her fear unimportant. I knew what I had to do, and if she were smart, she’d realize it, too. If she wanted to live. I opened the bathroom door and yanked her inside, thanking fuck that I found it empty. It was filthy, but better than nothing, and it had a shower that everyone used when they felt the need to be clean, which wasn’t often.

Ginger spun around when I shut the door, the look of a trapped animal in her pretty blues. I ignored her growing terror, steeling myself for what I had to do. Even behind closed doors I had to make it real, had to be convincing that I was an unfeeling bastard. I saw her swallow, could see her tits rising and falling rapidly as the fear of the unknown overwhelmed her. She was expecting the worst, preparing herself to do whatever she had to do to survive.

“Take off your clothes.” I kept my tone harsh, indifferent to her growing panic.

She shook her head vigorously and stepped back, slamming hard against the cracked porcelain sink. A nervous cry escaped her, and her eyes were wild as she took in her surroundings and realized that there was no escape. Her gaze touched on the door behind me before meeting my eyes.

“Please‒”

“Take off your fucking clothes,” I said in an uncaring, demanding tone. “You’re filthy, and not in a way that gets my dick hard. Now undress.” I removed my cut and the t-shirt beneath it. “In fact, I think I’ll join you.” Her eyes nearly popped out of her head at that. “If you’re not undressed by the time I’m out of my clothes, you won’t like the consequences.” I kicked off my boots as my hands went to the front of my pants.

As I’d expected she would, Ginger’s small hands began to unbutton her blouse. Slowly she began to expose enticing, creamy skin to my wandering eyes. I undid my pants. She lowered her gaze to the floor and turned around before reluctantly removing the garment. I let her have her moment of modesty before I looked into the mirror in front of her. Fuck. My dick took notice of her perfect tits and rosy nipples. Hard nipples. Surprising.

I lowered my zipper, the sound of it overloud in the tiny room. I could tell that she knew what I was doing by the stiffening of her backside, but she didn’t let it stop her from removing her jeans. As I kicked mine away, hers hit the floor. I hissed, taking in the mouth-watering curves of her shapely ass, an ass I wanted to dig my fingers into while I was grinding my dick into her cunt. Fucking hell, I hadn’t expected the surge of lust that was heating my blood at an alarming rate.

The sound of harsh breathing filled the room, and it took a minute before I realized that it was mine. “Turn around,” I demanded sharply.

I kept the smile to myself when I watched her bring her long hair forward, knowing that she was trying to use it to shield as much of her nudity as she could from me. She’d all but succeeded. When she turned, her tits were hidden behind the thick layers of her hair, and her hands were shielding her pussy from me.

“Come here, Ginger.”

She padded toward me slowly. I was glad that she was acting sensible. It would make my job a helluva lot easier, and besides, I didn’t want to hurt her. When she was within inches of me she halted, her gaze still lowered to the floor. “Look at me.” I moved her hair back behind her, exposing those luscious tits. Christ, they were full and rounded, more than a handful, and her rosy little nipples made me salivate and my dick harden.

Her worried, frightened eyes locked onto mine, and I steeled myself from softening towards her. “This is going to happen, Ginger. You and I both know that Wildman will kill us both if it doesn’t, and that’s after every one of his brothers fucks you raw.” I hesitated, giving her time to digest that. “You want that to happen?” She shook her head, a lone tear making its way down her cheek. I wiped it away with my thumb. “No more resistance from you, and I’ll make it as easy on you as I can.”
