Review – Top Bottom Switch by Chelle Bliss

What Worked For Me:

Chelle Bliss steps things up a notch from her usual in Top Bottom Switch and absolutely does NOT disappoint!  I was in lust a first word with this book!  It is apparent from the very beginning that there is undeniable chemistry between Ret and Alese.  Ret is an amazing and strong alpha character who I liked immensely.  He’s a Dom through and through, but not a complete jerk…he comes off confident and strong, not cocky and overbearing.  Alese is a little unsure of herself and hasn’t quite found her footing in the lifestyle.  Ret is just the man to tame this woman’s ways!  Together these two have some scorching and blistering scenes that caused sparks to shoot out of my Kindle and my clothes to almost spontaneously burst into flames!  I loved their banter and play!  The BDSM scenes had the perfect blend of eroticism and emotional connection between the characters. I also very much appreciated that, while this story was only a novella, the author took the time to write an epilogue, and give us a little extra peek into these characters lives in the future.   While this story was short and there wasn’t a long drawn out plot, it was a deeply fulfilling read that kept me entertained and engaged the entire time and makes me look forward what other surprise gems Ms. Bliss has up her sleeves in her writing repertoire.

Would I Recommend This Book:

Yes, especially to my BDSM loving friends.

I can almost smell her arousal from across the booth, and my mouth waters from the scent. “Lucky bastard,” I whisper so quietly that only I can hear over the music in the background.

Stella’s body starts to tremble, her creamy skin glistening under the lights. Her breathing changes and she lets out a small moan.

Misha’s hand stops and he whispers in her ear. She nods before his hands start to move again under the table. “Open your eyes, Stella. I want Master Ret to watch you fall apart in my lap.”

Her head slowly moves off his shoulder and her eyes flutter open.

I swallow, my mouth suddenly dry when our eyes meet. Without breaking eye contact, and with my hand still holding my hardened cock, I pick up the scotch and watch over the rim. I try to quell the thirst, but it doesn’t work.

I don’t need a drink. I need a submissive.

Review – Remember When by RC Boldt

Remember When, Book 3 of the Teach Me Series by RC Boldt

Date of Publication: May 10, 2016

What Worked For Me:

I have never read RC Boldt before but after reading Remember When, I will definitely check out more books by her.  Remember When is book 3 in the Teach Me series and while it can be read as a stand alone, I think more enjoyment would be had out of it if I had read the previous 2 books in the series.  Don’t let that fool you, however.  This was a very sweet and romantic book that absolutely tore at my heart over and over again.  Tate has never fully healed from her perceived “abandonment” by Miller, her high school boyfriend and the love of her life.  He joined the Navy and Tate never hears from him again.  Ten years later, their lives are now entwined closely as their friends are all “family” and there is no escaping one another.  Miller, for his part, feels like he was the injured party.  To him, Tate left him for greener pastures when he joined the Navy and never looked back.  But things are not what they seem and with the help of their friends (who I absolutely ADORE) Tate and Miller find that there may be a second chance for them after all this time.  It is very, very clear from the beginning of the book that, despite the bickering and hostility, they both have some pretty strong feelings for each other.  Some of the things they say to each other have me cringing but you can see through all this and realize these two are fighting a losing battle.  They have some pretty great chemistry and while this book has some awesome bedroom scenes, this story is about more than that.  It’s about forgiveness and moving on and finding it in yourself to reach for whatever happiness you can, while you still have the chance to do it.  Tate and Miller shine together.  I’m a sucker for long-lost love reconciliation stories and this book is perfect if you are in the mood for that type of romance.  And when the truth of all that happened in their past comes to light….I lost it.  I was so heartbroken for both of them, but most especially Tate, who lost so much in the blink of an eye.  It made reading their journey to healing and forgiveness even more meaningful, no matter how bumpy it got at times.  There are plenty of laughs to be had….some that had me in stitches quite honestly!  Really, this group of friends is hilarious!  I feel like I’m watching a sitcom….one that I very much want to be a part of!!!!  I can’t wait to read the next story in this series.

What Didn’t Work For Me:

Since I didn’t read books 1 or 2, I got kind of confused when stories of the other friends in this group romances were brought up. There were remarks made that I know had to involve those other books so I was left scratching my head, feeling like I missed the “inside” joke.  It was also obvious at the beginning that these two had scenes with each other in the previous book (or books) and I feel like I missed out on that.  I think those early interactions would have made this book even more meaningful to me.  At times I felt like I was tossed into the deep end of the pool and I don’t know how to swim very well.

Would I Recommend This Book:

Yes, to my romance loving readers who love sweet romances with lots of laughter and good friends.  Also, HIGHLY recommend this book to my reader friends who love first love reconciliation romance stories.  This one will knock your socks off!!!!

The third installment of RC Boldt’s Teach Me series returns with two people who once had it all…

Over a decade ago, fourth grade teacher Tate Donnelly was attending college with the love of her life by her side. She had been certain, even then, that it was the forever kind of love. But she was proven wrong when he left her all alone to pick up the pieces of her life—and heart—when her entire world imploded.

Former Navy SEAL Miller Vaughn once had the love of a girl he thought would be his, and be by his side forever. Unfortunately, that only lasted until after he joined the Navy. Then she vanished, never to be heard from again. Throwing himself into his training, he vowed to become the best, toughest SEAL he could be, and never let a girl get the best of him again.

Years later, a man who resembles a boy she once knew reappears in her life. A boy she had loved with her whole being. A boy who had eviscerated her heart.

Though much time has passed, Tate and Miller still feel that same “pull” they did years ago. When truths about the past are revealed, will they both be able to move on from their painful past … or are they destined for heartbreak again?

Can they remember when their love was the most important thing in their world?

There was no mistaking the glaring ‘Return to Sender’ stamps on the letters I held in my hand. Staring down at the letters I’d just retrieved from my mailbox in the commons area on campus, I couldn’t ignore the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Miller and I had begun dating during our senior year of high school and it had been nothing short of spectacular. When the popular quarterback of our school’s undefeated football team had slid into the vacant seat beside me in AP Biology, asking if I’d be his partner, I had been surprised, as the two of us normally gravitated in completely different circles. No, he wasn’t a dumb jock; I had noticed him in some of my other AP classes, but still. I had been the Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook staff. Not exactly scintillating by high school standards.

We had grown closer, become friends, as we dissected animals and I’d discovered that we worked well as lab partners. Far better than I’d ever expected. We began studying for our tests and, little by little, I warmed up to him. When he’d asked me to go to the Homecoming Dance with him, I had been decidedly cautious.

“I don’t know …” I had hesitated. “Don’t you think you’d be better off taking Kalli? Or Stephanie?” I offered up names of the two extremely popular cheerleaders at our school. These were girls who showed absolutely no hesitation in fawning all over the tall, handsome Miller Vaughn with his sparkling blue eyes and dark hair. He was extremely muscular, even for a high school senior, and with his six foot three frame, he appeared intimidating to many.

Miller had given me a patient smile. “Tate, if I wanted to ask someone else to Homecoming, I would have. But I didn’t. I asked you.”

Looking up into his eyes, I had thrown caution to the wind. “Okay. But if it turns out to be like a scene from the movie Carrie, I’m going to be really pissed.”

His head was thrown back in laughter before gazing down at me with a tender smile. “Tate, I promise I won’t let anything happen to you.”

And he hadn’t. We had gone to the dance and he’d been a perfect gentleman, opening doors for me, holding my hand, his shoulders thrown back with pride as he walked into the gym with me on his arm. I’d had more fun than I had ever expected. And when it came time for him to bring me home, his soft lips pressed against mine in the sweetest kiss.

From that point on, we’d been inseparable. And by the time graduation came around, he had told me he loved me and wanted to be with me, for us to go to the same college. When we had both been accepted to UMU, it had seemed like it was meant to be—like we were meant to be.

Until the end of our freshman year.

RC Boldt is the wife of Mr. Boldt, a retired Navy Chief, mother of Little Miss Boldt, and former teacher of many students. She currently lives on the coast of North Carolina but dreams of relocating to a tropical island. When she’s not writing, she can be found daydreaming of relocating to a tropical island, at the beach, going running with her family (and contemplating *gently* tossing her daughter out of the jogging stroller to reduce weight resistance), singing karaoke, harassing her husband or relaxing with a good book. And, let’s be honest. Most of those activities listed probably include wine or a good microbrew. Except for the running. In that case, the drinks come afterward. 🙂

Review – Sebring by Kristen Ashley

What Worked For Me:

I went into this book not expecting much.  I didn’t like Nick in Knight, and I was pretty sure there was not much he could do to redeem himself.  Thankfully, I am one of those people who has no problem admitting I’m wrong (unless it’s to my husband, and that’s a whole different issue).  Nick Sebring ended up being one of my favorite Unfinished Heroes characters.  He went from freeloading low-life, to honorable and upstanding alpha man.  It was simply remarkable.  He was also, since he was written by the insanely talented Ms. Ashley, completely believable.  I fell in love with Nick.  And Livvie, she was his perfect heroine.  Without giving away too much about Livvie and her family dealings, I was not sure I was going to care much for her but she was a breath of fresh air.  I loved her just as much as Nick.  And together, this couple had explosive chemistry and off-the-charts banter (when they finally came up for air and started talking, that is).  There was a very well thought out plot that flowed smoothly and was easy to keep up with.  And, as always, Ms. Ashley gives the reader the feeling that no matter what age you are or what has happened to you in the past, there is a happy ending out in the world for everyone.  There isn’t much Kristen Ashley writes that I don’t like but Sebring rises above like a phoenix rising from the ashes and is the perfect conclusion to another flawless series.

What Didn’t Work For Me:

From the cover to characters to plot to editing, the whole book was a feast for the senses and every part of it worked effortlessly.

Would I Recommend This Book:

Wholeheartedly, yes.

Happy Release Day – Enshrine by Chelle Bliss

I thought I knew what was important, but one phone call sent my life into a tailspin. Alone and afraid, I clung to the one man I shouldn’t. I was warned about him and told to stay away. “He’s dangerous,” they said. But the man who could hurt me the most, gave me the greatest comfort. “He’s not who they think,” I told myself. But just like an illusion, things are never what they seem.

I loved it so much……I had to share it twice.  If you read any books this year, make sure this is one of them!  – Christina, Nice Ladies, Naughty Books

What Worked For Me:

Let me just say, I’m a fan of Chelle’s books.  However, while excited to read this book I wasn’t jumping on pins and needles because the blurb just didn’t tell me enough to get me excited in a huge way.  A BIG MISTAKE I shall never make again!  Because this book was raw and very, very real.  Callie, our heroine, is facing a very real battle in her life (since I do not want to give anything away, I will not reveal what it is).  Her struggle is heartbreaking and gut-wrenching and emotional and I can honestly say it has been years since I have been moved in such a profound and thought provoking way.  She was charming, bitchy, and loving and I have never cheered so hard or been so moved by a heroine in all my years of reading.  Her hero, Bruno, is her perfect counterpart for her fight.  He is amazing and generous and written so beautifully that I think every woman deserves a man like this, most especially when the stakes in life are as high as they are for Callie.  Together, this couple is masterful in Callie’s battle and the emotional mind field written in this book is unlike anything I have ever read and they are sure to stay with me no matter what books I read in the future.  I must add as a side note….Bruno’s family.  I love his family.  His sister especially but even more so, his parents.  With such strong emotions being evoked in this book, the Bruno parents provide a breathtaking amount of laughter and warmth that make me even happier for Callie and her happy ending.  I have no doubt that Enshrine, with its smoking hot cover and heart-stopping yet awe-inspiring love story, will be one of my top 5 reads not only of the entire year, but most definitely my entire life.  Kudos, Chelle, for telling us a story showing love can endure all things and reminding us it’s the little things that make up an amazing life!

REVIEW – Staking His Claim by Tessa Bailey

NYPD sniper Matt Donovan is in Hell. Instead of driving his best friend’s little sister home from college, he’s stuck with her roommate—a fresh-faced ray-of-sunshine with a body that makes grown men weep. There’s no way he’ll allow himself to taint the little vixen, no matter how hard she tries to tempt him, so he resigns himself to the longest—and hardest—drive of his life.

Matt’s obvious attraction suits grad student Lucy Mason just fine. She had no idea her brother’s best friend was so deliciously hot. Knowing he’d never have his wicked way with his buddy’s sister, she lies about her identity and seduces him. But Matt’s no fumbling college boy. His desires run deep—and dark—and he wants to teach Lucy what wicked really means.

Matt’s demanding appetites only make Lucy want more. But when her cover’s blown, he’s furious—even as his hunger for her becomes insatiable. Matt can’t trust anyone, least of all himself. And he knows all too well that darkness always destroys the light…

Mandy’s Review:

As a rule, I do not read a series out of order. Ever. Unbeknownst to me when I began reading, Staking His Claim, it  was the FIFTH book in the “Line of Duty” series. What?!?!?  In my orderly little book brain, that was almost sacriligeous. But, and a huge but here, this book does not read like the fifth in a series. It read like a stand alone, with the secondary characters there and not requiring any backstory. None at all.

It made sense for Matt to do his best friend a huge favor by driving his younger sister, Lucy, and her BFF from school at Syracuse back into NYC.  Matt is the perfect, sexy, brooding ex-military sniper now working for the NYPD. At first I was put off a little by his immediate dominance of Lucy and her total, no questions asked, acceptance of it. A couple of hours from Syracuse, Matt’s car has a mechanical issue and they are forced to book a hotel room to wait on the needed part to arrive the next morning. By this point, Matt is so turned on by Lucy that he has go excuse himself to take matters in. *cough, cough* hand, so to speak. Just as he locks himself in the bathroom, he hears moaning noises from the bedroom. Catching Lucy watching porn pretty much erodes the last of his self control and he decides his best move at this point is to leave the room.

Lucy put me off a bit by lying to Matt, telling him that she was actually her best friend, Sasha, and that Lucy had decided to run off with her boyfriend at the last minute. In my head, I knew where this story was ending, but the lying had me worrying about how it would get there.  It seemed to create a lot of extra angst that wasn’t needed. I did end up liking Lucy though.  I even cried with her at one point. As a recent graduate with a masters, she has job offers at a museum in NYC and one in Paris. She likes the idea of the NYC job so that she could be closer to her family, but after a heartbreaking moment, she decides to go to the Paris interview.  This leads to the sweetest, most romantic airport scene ever. Sniff, sniff. . .

The sex was hot and Matt was dominant without going overboard. His dominance was relegated to bedroom only,  which I liked because the dominance stories that carry over from the bedroom with the heroine kneeling and calling the hero master totally put me off.

I really enjoyed this story and have added the first books in this series to my wish list as well as recomending this to my fellow readers of hot, alpha sexiness.

4 of 5 stars simply because I didn’t like the initial lying.

REVIEW – Marine For Hire by Tawna Fesky

Marine for hireBlurb:

Sam Kercher is every inch a wickedly hot Marine. Tall. Sexy. Lethal. When his best friends call in a favor, Sam is forced to face an entirely new line of duty—playing nanny for their newly divorced sister and her squirming seven-month-old twin boys. If Sam can dissemble an M16 in his sleep, diaper duty should be a cakewalk…right?

Unfortunately, Operation Nanny isn’t quite that simple. Sheridan has sworn off overbearing military men, so Sam must protect her from her dirtbag ex without revealing just how much he has in common with her brothers. Or that he’s been ordered not to touch her. Ever. Problem is, Sheri’s one hell of a gorgeous woman, capable of making this hard-bodied marine even harder. And Sam wants her bad.

Protect the girl. Care for the babies. Hide his identity. And keep his hands off. But even the most disciplined Marine has weaknesses…and Sheridan is one Sam might not be able to resist

What worked for me:
Immediately,  I connected with Sheri and all of her doubts and fears of being a new mother. Tawna hit it head on without making it overly dramatic. As a character, Sheri was believable and relatable. I liked her and wanted to get to know her better.  Sam was sexy and kind and caring…the total package! I laughed at his struggles in his new role as a “manny”. I didn’t particularly care for the half-truths,  but they fit within the story line and helped to make it more believable.  As a whole, the story , the secondary characters all blended. Mac, as an older brother was overbearing and intrusive without being a total ass. Kelli was an awesome BFF. I want her to be MY new BFF. She listened, she felt bad with Sheri and she wasn’t afraid I wanted to get to know Sam and Sheri more. I wanted to see how they got along with the babies as they grew.  This book by Tawna Fenske was a first for me and l look forward to reading more of her work.
Would I recomend to a friend?
Absolutely!  I am quite anxious to see if we get a Mac and Kelli story.

REVIEW – Tempting Her Best Friend’s Father by Jenika Snow

What is a young woman to do when she starts to see her best friend’s father as something more?
As Mona’s feelings for Isaac start to escalate, she knows that a relationship with him could never work. As her best friend’s father, it is forbidden to be with him, yet she can’t seem to stay away.  With an abusive family, her best friend in a toxic relationship, and more problems arising every day, Mona knows her future is unsure.  Each day brings Isaac and Mona closer together, but she knows she can’t keep their relationship a secret forever from Karalina, her best friend and Isaac’s daughter.  Mona must decide to keep her relationship with Isaac and risk losing her friendship with Karalina forever, or come clean and possibly lose them both.

What Worked For Me:

I was slightly scandalized scanning the blurb but once I started reading the book, I could not stop.  This was a quick read, but completely enjoyable.  Mona was a very sweet and charming young lady, infatuated with her best friend’s father, and not in a creepy way.  Isaac is attracted to Mona but doesn’t act on it and stays away from her, until Mona takes matters into her own hands.  The plot was fast paced and easy to follow and the chemistry between Mona and Isaac was through-the-roof hot!!!  Throw in some drama involving her best friend, a very sensitive situation with the heroine’s family, and a crazy soon-to-be-ex girlfriend (belonging to Isaac) and you have a very delicious hour to look forward to.  Keep those tissues and a cold drink handy because this book will light your body on fire while totally causing you to shed a tear or two!  Fantastic!
