Three-Wishes-cover

When Lily Jacobs was born, she inherited Fazire – a genie. Her family had three wishes and they’d only ever used one so Fazire was stuck in the human world. This worked since he’d become a member of the family anyway.

Even with a genie, Lily’s young life wasn’t perfect. To escape the kids making her miserable at school, Lily buried herself in romance novels. One day, when the teasing was just too much, she used one of her wishes. She told Fazire she wanted to find a man like in her books and she made the most complicated wish Fazire had ever heard. Her wished-for man had to be impossibly handsome, virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless (amongst a dozen other things).

He also had to think she was beautiful and he had to love her more than anything in the world.

Nathaniel McAllister wasn’t born to a life where there were such things as genies granting wishes. His life was filled with drugs, crime and neglect. He was running errands for a gangster before he was in his teens and, even though life and hard work led him to wealth and respectability, he always knew, deep down, he was dirty. When Nate met Lily he knew he was no good for her but as virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless as he was, Nate was no match for the pull of sweet, innocent Lily.

Unfortunately, Lily’s wish included that she and her hero go through trials and tribulations to test their love. And Fazire wasn’t only a good genie, he loved Lily – so he gave her exactly what she wanted.

EXCERPT:

Nate didn’t know what he wanted but whatever it was, it certainly was not Georgia.

He was saved from answering Victor when he spied a youth wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, the hood worn up even though it was a warm day. The boy was slouching down the pavement, head bowed, hands in the front pocket of the sweatshirt, his head swinging this way and that, looking for his mark.

Nate’s guard, already on alert—always on alert—went into overdrive.

Nate’s eyes narrowed as he watched the youth, and Victor started to get into the Rolls. Then, as expected, the boy darted toward his target and Nate heard a woman’s outraged cry.

“Hey!” she yelled.

He watched the boy snatch the woman’s purse, his body tensing for action.

And then his eyes moved to the woman and uncharacteristically, he froze.

“Hey! He stole my purse! Stop him! He stole my purse!” she shouted.

Nate vaguely registered she was an American tourist. Nate also absently noticed that no one moved to assist.

In that brief moment in time, Nate was too busy drinking in the vision that was her, he himself didn’t move a muscle.

She was tall, incredibly tall.

And curvy, delectably curvy.

She had the most unusual colored hair. Hair that he knew from vast experience living in a house with Laura and Danielle for years came through a supremely talented and expensive stylist’s hands.

And she had an exquisite face, flawless skin and a bearing that was extraordinary. She had been given a wide berth around her even on the crowded pavement. Not because she was screaming her head off but instead because she was majestic, radiant, elegant…

Untouchable.

In a stupor from simply looking at her, the boy with her purse charged right by Nate.

Not in a stupor, she realized no one was going to help her, gave up screaming and charged right after the boy.

At the noise, Victor turned away from the car and Nate shifted to watch in astonishment as she deftly and agilely dodged the crowd, her long legs a match for the short boy. Then Nate watched in stunned surprise as she jumped onto the thief’s back with a graceful leap.

Everyone stared in shock but no one lifted a finger except a few started to take photographs.

“Give me back my purse, you thug!” she shouted.

Wrapping her long legs around her prey, one arm around his neck, she slapped him around the head with the other hand.

The thief staggered back then he staggered with intent and slammed her against the side of the building. Her head snapped back and cracked against the stone so loudly Nate could hear it from where he stood twenty paces away.

At the sound Nate jerked out of his stupor and forged forward.

Kristin Ashley - headshotAbout Kristen Ashley:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

~Franka~

I remembered that look.

I relished that look.

Not only on my Antoine but any lover I’d had (but, obviously, getting it from Antione was far more rewarding).

It was a look I worked toward, putting great energy and imagination into it, losing myself in these endeavors, feeling free of my name, my history, my secrets, my responsibilities, and reveling in my success as if I’d scaled mountains.

It was my greatest talent outside, of course (as any good Drakkar would excel), honing in on any vulnerability and manipulating it for the greatest possible gain—coin, jewels, furs, favors, silence, information, or simply for amusement.

Seeing the look on Noctorno at that moment, I knew Circe too had performed well (admirably well, I might add, considering her dismal past).

I also recognized—focusing on it keenly—what Circe might have missed, or perhaps what Noctorno hid from her understanding, or simply just sensing, how she came to him.

He was not done.

Oh no.

If she had not given indication she wished him out of her bedchamber, he’d still be in it.

Indeed, he might be in it all night, and not to sleep.

He might have been in it, perhaps, for days.

As these thoughts flitted in my mind, I became aware he’d fully entered the room, was stopped not far from my chair, and was standing, chin tipped down, eyes regarding me with a scrutiny that I found so uncomfortable I actually shifted in my seat.

I ceased this reaction the instant I became aware of it, appalled at myself.

Giving something away so easily? Especially something like discomfiture?

You’ve ruined me, I snapped silently at Antoine.

My dead lover had no rejoinder.

“You okay?” Noctorno asked.

“Am I what?” I asked in return.

His head gave a slight twitch before he went on, “You okay? All right?” His voice lowered. “It’s been a tough day, babe, for all of us. Including you.”

I looked beyond him to the fire, lifting my wine to my lips but not sipping it until after I murmured, “I’m perfectly fine.”

“Yeah, right,” he stated, and the disbelief veritably dripping from his tone made my gaze flick immediately back to him.

This meant I watched as he sauntered right in front of me to the chair accompanying mine, threw his lengthy frame in it and reached for the wine at the table that separated our seats.

He also reached for the extra glass.

These were seats, I shall add, that were turned at corners to each other with a small, round table in between, so my knee was nearly touching his.

He poured.

It was on the tip of my tongue to share that I had not invited him to attend me.

Alas, I became distracted by his long fingers, and the words died in my mouth.

Chapter 5

Thya’s session

Thya woke to a breakfast of juicy forest fruits. Already her head pained and her limbs felt tired and sore. She wanted to lie in bed all day, only Kezar was having none of that.

“What glorious light,” Kezar sang. “Come sight, my lady, even the trees are greener than usual. Tis a sign that all will be well. Come, you have an important engagement. I ought to ready you to receive Alkazar.”

The mention of his name rose Thya’s spirits. She thought it a good enough reason to get out of bed too.

Kezar dressed her in a red, silk wrapped dress, simple in design, yet stunning to behold. Placing a large red wildflower, which she had picked earlier, in Thya’s hair, she stood back to admire her work.

“There, I am satisfied,” Kezar announced.

A loud knock was heard on the outside door.

“Already,” Thya exclaimed. “You don’t waste any time do you? Okay, show him to the attendance room. I will be there shortly.”

Kezar greeted Alkazar at the door. “Our lady will receive you shortly. Enter, Alkazar.”

“You are well, Kezar?”

“Admirably. Tis an honour to serve our lady. She possesses a strange yet wonderful personality.”

“I agree.”

“Though I fear her heart is heavy,” she added.

Alkazar could not question Kezar further as Thya entered the room.

“I almost forgot about my lesson. Do you mind if we do this some other time? I am not feeling well. My head is killing me.”

“Kezar, leave us,” Alkazar instructed.

She turned to Thya for permission.

“It is fine, go,” Thya told her.

Thya waited until Kezar left, then poured some wine. Alkazar felt the need to speak.

“What you learnt ought not to have been conversed in that manner. The moment was not right.”

“No, it was not,” she snapped. “I should have been told from the start instead of being deceived. I refuse to marry anyone I do not love. No one will force me to, no matter what the consequences. As I have said, I have a headache and do not wish to discuss this.”

“I understand, Thya, truly I do.”

“How could you?”

“We Tsinians are betrothed since the coming of age. Are you familiar with when this is?”

“About sixteen human years?”

“Correct. Since this age, we are spoken for… I presume you name it as such. I do not love Siren, so I understand.”

“Oh, I see.” The unexpected news cheered Thya. “What happens if you fall in love with someone else—your soul mate? Someone other than your betrothed, what then?”

“The code forbids it.”

“The code? What is this? A set of rules you have to follow?” She laughed.

Alkazar frowned, unhappy with her mockery.

“Who has the authority to modify the code, for it is outdated? You ought to be allowed to love whom you want, not be dictated to.”

“Tis not my place to discuss the code. Tis Pertius’ task. I believe you are to session with him later. Remarking of which, I am present to tutor you, or have you forgotten?”

“Well, that was a subtle alteration of subject.” She ignored Alkazar’s puzzled expression. “I have not finished my conversation yet.”

Thya sensed that her questions were making him uncomfortable, only she was enjoying herself too much to stop. “Siren is very attractive. I cannot understand how falling in love with her can be such a trying task, especially for a man like… Sorry, a Tsinian like yourself.”

“I am a man, my lady, in every sense of the word.”

There was something dangerous gleaming in his eyes, which urged Thya to push harder. “So declare to me, Alkazar. Why could you not love Siren?”

“I will unite with her as tis my duty. Despite this, I will never love her. She does not contain enough spirit.”

Thya laughed at this. “So you want spice in your life?” she teased.

“I desire a Tsinian, who can support herself and not hide behind her husband’s shadow. One that exhibits brains, as well as beauty.”

His hypnotic eyes pierced her soul. It was too much for Thya to cope with. “Just because you will wed out of duty, do not expect me to do the same,” she told him.

An awkward silence followed, then came a welcome knock on the door. As if summoned by magic, Kezar appeared and waited for instruction.

“Bring your mistress a glass of Tamin juice,” Alkazar ordered. “I fear she has drunk much wine.”

“Nonsense,” Thya retorted. “This is my first glass.”

Kezar left at his request.

“Tis not wise to drink alcohol when we are in session,” he explained. “Tamin juice stimulates the brain.”

“Well, I hope it tastes nice.” Thya teased. She sighed. “If I must go through with this ridiculous charade, then at least reveal something about this so called power I am supposed to possess.”

“Do you doubt it, Princess?”

“Of course I do. If it was true, why have I not sighted anything by now? You’re wrong about me, and the sooner you realise this the better for us all.”

“We will soon sight.” He smiled. “And in answer to your inquiry, Thya, our powers, or gifts, as I prefer to name them, are unobtainable in your era.”

“So if, let’s state, I have this gift. When I return home I will be powerless?”

“Tis correct. This is why you have not seen any sign of it before.”

“How far do your gifts reach? Tsinia? Senx?”

Alkazar thought about the question for a moment. “Your planet is named Earth, your land is England. Enumac is the name we present to our world though we do not consider Enumac a planet. We are of another dimension to you. Enumac is the name of the lands as far as we can reach. Each land is occupied and labelled by a different race. We Tsinians, and, unfortunately, the Senxs, belong to a race called Bora. I am certain there is more of our kind beyond the Outlands, only that is yet to be explored.” Resting his hand on his hip, he glared at Thya. “I refuse to remark another word on this. Tis Pertius’ task.”

Thya had a lot to think about. Even so, her head was paining too much and she couldn’t take it all in.

Kezar arrived with refreshments.

The Tamin juice was sweet and cold, like thick sorbet.

“Umm, this is delicious. What is it?” she asked.

“A concoction of mine. A mixture of forest berries and other ingredients, which I will not disclose. I require all my students to drink it prior to a session. Kezar, leave us.”

Alkazar waited until the door closed before continuing. “I am aware of your discomfort. I can sight by the colour of your eyes that your head pains you. Come, sit beside me. I have a remedy which will cure your ills.”

Thya did as he asked and waited for his next instruction.

“Tilt your head back, not too far. That is sufficient. Close your eyes and breathe deeply, relax.”

Thya’s head rested upon Alkazar’s chest. His fingers pressed on either side of her temples, massaging gently. Warmth emitted from his fingertips and already the pain was subsiding.

“That feels so good.” She sighed. “You have healing hands.”

“Nay, Thya, that is Valcan’s gift. Part of your training is learning to relax, and fortunately, I have experience in that activity. You are tense. I am aware of your stress. What you have discovered and sighted may seem unreal to you. I am responsive to your ordeal. Regardless, in order to get through this, you are to control your emotions.”

“Umm,” she replied, hardly listening to what he was saying.

His hands lowered down to the top of her neck. His massage continued; lower still, down to her shoulders. The rubbing and pressing deepened, becoming more intense.

Thya was feeling good. So relaxed that she thought she might fall asleep.

Alkazar slipped the silk straps off her shoulder. His fingertips caressed her skin, causing ripples of delight to run through her body.

How far was he willing to go he asked himself? His actions and her responses aroused him. His hands wandered further down the front of Thya’s neck, as if guided by her will. He could not release his touch, even if he wanted to; her skin was irresistible. His hands were upon her heaving breasts when he paused.

“Umm… don’t stop,” she breathed.

As if her words sent a shock through his hands, he removed them. She opened her eyes wide.

“I fear you are too relaxed,” he told her. “I cannot have my students falling asleep on me.”
